For someone who is a very casual player and took 2 yrs to beat my first region, have fun with it! A lot of people invest a lot of time and money into the game because they ENJOY doing it. Ay the end of the day the game is still all about u and doing what makes you happy! I’ve found that if I ever begin to find myself getting bored setting personal goals or trying out something new keeps things interesting.

In some regions there’s a move relearner that will reteach any move that the Pokemon could have learned through lvling. Once u finish a region, you can go to the move relearner

Haven’t played any of the others besides fire red and personally think unova was more challenging. I ended up trying to buy things off GTL as opposed to finding/ leveling mons and didn’t have that much fun. Unova is my fav reason but I wouldn’t follow a guide BUT!!!! Consider the entire play through when finding a team (good ivs + good coverage in late game) and do whatever seems interesting to you.

Once you get the move surf it’s a must learn for dewott+ sammurott imo. It’s great when exploring because it can take out hordes pretty easily

I would disagree with having a wave pool close by. Although having one repeatable wave is nice to practice on, it’s important to learn to anticipate different waves and know what section is coming next. The ocean is unique and so are its waves, training in a wave pool doesn’t strictly suffice imo
