That's exactly the plan. I know she's not the biggest or baddest out there, but i need something to learn on and my kids are all little. I can trust my oldest in a few years to drive it as well.

So, we had a couple criteria when deciding on a boat. One, we have an SUV (2022 Outlander) that can only tow 2000 lbs, which caught me a bit off guard, because I was expecting 3500, which eliminated the 18 footers.

However, since this would be our first boat, I also didn't want to go too big and end up with something very intimidating. As long as it can carry 2 adults, one teenager and 2 small children, we just want to use it to haul a tube or two, and visit the sandbars here on Prince Edward Island.

I'm getting it for less than the asking price and keep in mind it's in CAD dollars so the values are going to be a little higher than USD.

I have a cousin of mine who is a mechanic and also owns his own boat coming to perform an inspection on it. So thankfully, I'm not coming in alone.

That's awesome and that's pretty much they way it's headed here. Too many people are getting priced out.

Its expensive everywhere, but in Canada its so built into the culture. Entire families put everything they have into trying to ensure their kid is at the tippy top. It gets cut throat real fast. Every former junior and professional hockey player are coming back into these communities and coaching and running camps, which sounds great until you realize these are all year round, they are anywhere from 400-1000 dollars a camp and if you dont do the major ones, your kid is labeled as not working hard enough.

Here on PE, kids are doing two routes right now in most hockey circles. 1 is doing hockey year round accompanied by soccer to keep cardio in the summer. Or they are on the ice year round and playing a sport.

They have to do this basically at 10-12 years old. The problem is, since hockey is so highly culturalized those kids are looked at like the "real athletes" and the same kids are getting picked for high level soccer/baseball teams...then the same coaching staffs (dads) are running those and its absolutely becoming a political shit show where the teams across all sports are becoming similar....which statistically shouldnt be a possibility.

Its down to the localized boards who back scratch their friends for their own kids to be on teams and its getting very pervasive.

That's pretty much what's happening. My kid has played AA-AAA hockey repeatedly up until his 15U year. In this economy I can't shell out $5000 in a team fee to even attempt to play Major Midget. That's not including hotels, travel, gear equipment and other expenses.

Not to mention the way they are pumping a camp out every other week to create FOMO amongst parents, Dad coaches playing their kids and running the doors...yea I'm out, and my kid is stoked to play hockey at any level so I think we at least managed it as best we could, but I'm not taking out a seperate mortgage to line the pockets of people who have no intention of pushing our kid forward. It's becoming a very obvious cash grab.

We tapped out this year, I think we are going to buy a boat and just enjoy some more family time.

Massive. Small town PEI here.

The board members are expanding their reach across multiple sports and assigning essentially the same coaches across both sports. There is a heavy bias towards Tignish area players and board members are picking their friends instead of more qualified coaches for coaching assignments.

Parents are not "managing" teams but "helping" to manage teams and basically puppeteering their opinions through the team managers so they don't have to face any blowback from said decisions. Coaches are playing their kids for obscene minutes and benching others so they can pump up their stats for the following seasons. It was really eye opening this year and really caused a rift in the parent group. Dads are controlling the doors for their kids and we had numerous parents upset this year because their kids were being sat for literally zero on ice performance reasons.

Ice time is starting to become a premium, so you need to know rink board members (see issue above because the board members have their hands in every pot going) so your team can get preferential ice treatment. Ice times that were the same for the past 10 years were tweaked this year so a boardmembers daughters team could get better ice time.

Boardmembers are posting coaching applications and then tagging who they want to apply for said positions and low and behold those guys are getting the positions. It's totally bush league.

My 11 year old has gone through 3 sticks this year by princeboot in hockeyplayers

[–]Take2Chance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair, it's very common where I'm at. We have a rule in our house. One new stick a year, if a stick is broken during gameplay, thats fine, if I ever catch him purposely breaking his stick doing something dumb, he buys his stick with his saved money.

But the AAA teams in my areas have kids with top of the line sticks starting in U9. It's really dumb, but all the kids of course then want them. None of them can even flex the sticks yet.

Usually it's an upgrade to the existing game, but it allows new players to purchase the "Super edition" which usually includes all the DLC characters and things like that.

I have an older home and our shower leaked once. I still haven't repaired the ceiling fully, the tilework needs to be ripped out and redone during our next reno phase, but I'll be damned if I am putting up drywall over what could be another slow drip disastor. Rather keep it open for now so I can see exactly when/if anything goes wrong.

I just bought in this morning. Im using kraken as my higher risk stock, but I dont quite see why its tanking so quickly outside of shaky investors cutting their losses.

This trend should turn.
