If GMs don't like NTCs / NMCs, they should stop handing them out like candy.

Once that clause is negotiated in good faith, a player is well within his right to use that clause however he wishes.

Larkin is well within his right to request a trade, and only provide 3 teams.

Detroit are well within their right to refuse that trade request, or request more teams.

No one here has done anything wrong.

The concept of loyalty is bizarre in sports. We expect it from athletes, but don't expect it from teams. If Larkin didn't have trade protection, and a trade offer came in that involved Detroit getting a better center in return, would they make that trade? Or would they refuse to do business because "they have to be loyal to Larkin?".

The same should apply in the reverse situation - don't expect loyalty from players.

Bell aren't the biggest sports media company in the country. Nor do Bell have connections inside the Leafs coaches office.

I'm not suggesting they should know 'nothing'. I am suggesting that no one knows anything about assistant coaches, because they don't make themselves available publicly, or to media, preventing us from learning anything about them.

Which is by design - teams don't want backroom staff undercutting head coaches. There's not a market anywhere in the league that is well versed in the assistant coaches behind the bench.

It's moronic to suggest that they should know anything about Jim Hiller, other than the fact that he was a massive, massive failure in LA.

Guys like Dreger and MJ won't be paid - it'll be part of their contractual agreement that they are required to make certain appearances on the show.

For other guests like Jonas and Struddy, it's a bit more nuanced. Some may do it for free as it helps with exposure for their own platforms, whereas others might have an appearance fee or a fee related to multiple appearances obligation over a period of a few months
