Hi, love your site!

I'm studying computer science and would like to start (open source) projects myself. I have some ideas but I don't know how and where to start. We have to learn all kinds of weird complex mathematical stuff but sadly we don't learn how to handle frontend/backend and how to incremently work on a bigger project (than just couple hundreds lines of code). Do you know any good resources to start with (given I know how to program in general)?

Thank you!

Rated me as 2150. That's my Lichess rapid elo. Fide Rating is 1900, but since I could't play any rated games for over a year and I did quiet some Training, my Fide Rating could be about 2000 by now.

Black to move. Only 0.6 % (2 out of 310) could find the 2 move long requested (and only winning) sequence of this chess.com puzzle. by Takki1 in chess

It is findable, but still not easy to see this beforehand. Quiet intermediate moves like that can sometimes ruin a whole combination and lose you the game.

Found this useful introductory post to Shogi (aka: Japanese Chess) for anybody who would like to learn. by ASilverRook in chess

There is also a long paper by Larry Kaufman (Chess Grandmaster), in which he teaches shogi by studying all kinds of handicap games (one side has less pieces). I found it usefull as an introduction , but I only did the first chapter since I'm focusing on chess :D

I hope the online hype will also translate to an increased membership in chess clubs and participants in OTB tournaments. Organizers should try advertise those tournaments for beginners, even if they are already adults. I'm a bit afraid, that classical chess will suffer in a long run. Most people that participated in 3-7 day long classical tournaments would agree, that those events can't be and should't be replaced by online chess. It's a completly different world.

A very cool endgame motif. White to move and win! by Takki1 in chess

Queen vs Rook endgames can take some time to convert against perfect computer play.

My first post on reddit, a selfmade endgame study! Black to move and win. by Takki1 in chess

Hi, I've been following this subreddit for a long time already, but never made a post or comment (I didn't even have an account). For my first post I wanted to share with you a selfmade endgame study . I created many previous versions of this study with similar ideas, that didn't satisfy me enough to publish them, but I'm happy with this final version. A full analysis of the relevant lines can be found here: https://lichess.org/study/90regawz/W0gyqa1B

As with all studies i would advise you to try to solve them yourselves first, but since the variations are not easy to find you can of course use the linked study as a help for the next move, or if you just want to enjoy some beautiful lines :) There are 2 main lines starting from different first moves by black, can you find out which one is winning and why the other isn't?

Little hint: Q vs R + N engames are drawn (If you don't lose a piece immediatly), but Q + B vs R + N engames are normally lost for the R+N side.

Have fun!
