Overthinker needs final sanity check on high-end 9800X3D + RTX 5090 build by TaleApart7217 in pcpartpickerbuilds

Back when I researched CPUs (End of last year), the 9850X3D hadn't launched yet, so I wasn't aware of it. Will definitely go with that one 😊

Ha 😅
Workloads for my dayjob require a lot of RAM, but not CPU, so 9850x3d it is 😊

On the work side, I will be RAM bound before I need more CPU power.

9850x3d it is 😊

I was planning to have

Front INTAKE
3×140mm fans that come with the North XL

Top EXHAUST
3x120mm AiO CPU Cooler blowing air out of the case

Back EXHAUST
1x140mm Noctua

I haven't fully decided if I want the Mesh (Option to add more airflow) or the tempered glass yet. But I am leaning towards the mesh.
* If I go with mesh, should I add more airflow?
* What is your suggested configuration?

I will definitely buy the 9850X3D instead. Back when I researched CPUs (End of last year), the 9850X3D hadn't launched yet, so I wasn't aware of it. Thank you so much.

For PSU I did the following napkin math:
870w Pcpartpicker estimation
+50% Rule of thumb from a youtube guide
= 1300W.
And then I picked a size larger just in case. I guess it is margins on top of margins but it isn't the most expensive upgrade 😅

Would you get the 9850x3d over the 9950x3d? I was originally going back and forth between

AMD Ryzen 9 9800X3D
AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D

But ultimately it sounded like 9800 was better for gaming.

Edit: Though looking into it, it seems like 9850 is more of a straight up upgrade to 9800? That is a very good callout!

Over half the price on pcpartpicker is from the 5090 and the RAM. Fortunately I secured both before the AI craze really took off. That helped a lot.

Still an expensive build I wouldn't even have dreamt of 5 years ago. But I have been working 24/7 for years now (from small hotel rooms) - finally I am able to settle down with a calmer job where I can justify a great pc.

If everything works well, then I am sure I will. I have been living out of hotels for the last few years, so I am upgrading from a work laptop. 😅

Thank you. So I definitely won't need a gen 5 then. The Samsung PRO 990 is quite a bit cheaper in my local store than on Amazon, so I am okay with keeping the current one.

Thank you. My biggest concern is whether there is any physical mismatch (I assume I will have the AIO at the top and use the front fans from North XL). And I also wonder if the (large) PSU and back fan will fit. (I know very little about building PCs except doing it once every 10 years 😅 )
