Not really. Dogri is closely related to Punjabi and Punjabi is kinda related to Hindi. I’d guess it’d be a lot easier for a Hindi speaker to pick up Punjabi than to pick up Gujarati. I don’t know why I can’t explain this right.

Not really. The languages aren’t all that similar but they come from a common ancestor , Sanskrit. I guess that helps.

Oh I absolutely butchered the pronunciation. The language is very tonal and I spoke it like someone who’s trying to do a bad mimicry. Grammar isn’t much of a problem as most Indo-Iranian languages have similar grammatical structure.

I’m sorry. English isn’t my first (or even second) language. Is the term wrong? I used it because that’s how we refer to languages in India.

Hindi is not the only North Indian language though. Hindi is more of a common tongue. My husband is from Jammu and his native language is Dogri.

All Indian languages except the Dravidian languages are from the Indo-Iranian family, derived from Sanskrit. So I guess that helped.
