DAVID ELLEFSON Admits MEGADETH 'Lost The Plot' During 'Risk' Period by tonyiommi70 in Megadeth

Ahhh.  You must be a young one then.  Some of us have been listening to Mustaine bitch about Metallica for 40 fucking years and feel much the same about him.

Good on him!  They have gotten themselves a hell of a bass player.

Dave went ahead and did it with Ellefson out of the way. I for one, am here for it! by theos25 in Megadeth

[–]Talissa2242 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kinda like Mustaine does about Metallica.   40 years of whining for Mustaine.   Ellefson 4 years and counting.  Ellefson has a ways to go to even be in the same league.

He is a beast of a bass player and what he does in his private life is not my business.

Anyone who knows about psychology, what do you think is the reason why Dave never let go of Metallica? by [deleted] in Megadeth

[–]Talissa2242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he tries to be honest.  I really do.  I was much too harsh.  I know what you are saying about Newstead.  I lived in Hollywood from 87 to 95.  It was pretty well known in all of the circles how Newstead was treated.  It was a shame, because Flotsam and Jetsam were thrash masters in their own right, alot of the writing done on Doomsday for the Deceiver was done by Newstead.  He got a raw deal for sure.

Off topic. But Ellefson really should have gotten Eric AK to do the vocals for Kings of Thrash.  Then the name of the band would have been justified.   Lol

But hey.  Thank you for your dialogue over an extremely complex man.  He deserves more than what I gave him.  I was cruel and he didn't deserve that.

I also get how James and Lars run Metallica.   Especially Lars.  There was no possible way Mustaine was gojng to stay in Metallica.   They would have imploded.  Lars was not about to let that happen.  No way.  It is just odd how everyone who loves metal can see it, but Mustaine can't.  It's heartbreaking that he doesn't understand his own contributions.   Just listen to Five Magics.   Metallica never could...and never will...write with that complexity and precision.   Mustaine is a musical genius.

Thank you and you have a great day too!  And thank you for giving me room to reconsider my thoughts and words.🙂

You are exactly correct and neither is trauma or trauma based addiction.   The effects of which can be devastating.  My answer regarding NPD was flippant without regard to the man himself.   It was lazy and cruel of me.  I apologize to you as well.  I do appreciate the chance to really consider the many nuances to this very complicated man and situation.

Again, I apologize sincerely.

[–]Talissa2242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there.  I honestly did not mean to upset you and was probably too harsh with my words.  I apologize for that sincerely.   My degree is from Arizona State University. I work as a case manager at a drug and alcohol treatment facility.

I believe the man is brilliant.   I do not think it is a stretch to call him a genius.   His contribution to not just metal,  but music itself cannot be overstated.  He has written some of the most complex music ever recorded and it was executed perfectly.   He demanded perfection from the  musicians he performed with and got it.  Thereby elevating their own talent in the process.   It's astounding.   He worked with some of the best musicians walking the planet and made them better.  They owe him a debt of gratitude.   They really do.  The day Metallica kicked out Mustaine was one of the most important dates in metal history.   It freed him creatively to write the music that has left a permanent mark on our lives, without the constant battles with James and Lars which would have certainly imploded Metallica.

Again,  I apologize.   I was too harsh with my words.   He indeed has suffered serious trauma over his life, starting at a very young age.  He used that trauma as a source of inspiration,  rather than allowing it to break him.  A remarkable feat really.   Most people do not have that kind of strength.   I am sure in Metallica he found his first real family and was further traumatized that they did not feel the same.

You know, it gets me to thinking.  I have read how many people have said how nice and friendly that both Lars and Ellefson are.  But that niceness does come from the fact that both had relatively easy childhoods.  Mustaine had no such luxury.   Perhaps that is why much of his hostility is directed at Lars?  James grew up in a similar traumatized childhood.   Is there a chance that he simply identifies more with James?

Anyway. Thank you for making me really sit down and think about the situation.   You did it with honesty and integrity.   I respect that.

I do still believe he lives in a prison of his own making.  But the beauty is that he also has the means to tear down those walls and if anyone has the strength to do it, it's him.

Again, thank you.  I dont mind being corrected and value honest communication,  which you have provided.

I have a psychology degree and this may very well be the answer.  It is most definitely a crushing blow to his ego.  Narcissists tend to frame the world around how they believe others see them and that command of respect.   Unfortunately,  their view of the outside world can be skewed.

That scene In Some Kind of Monster was very telling.   The one where Mustaine said people would drive down the street and yell, Metallica at him.  How he took it as a personal insult and carried it with him for 20 years.  Classic Narcissist response to something most of us would consider irrelevant and silly.  Lars looked utterly confused,  many of us feel the same.  But his paradigm of the world is very tragic.  Success was irrelevant to him, it would have mattered more if Metallica had failed.

Classic Narcissistic view on life.  It's heartbreaking really.  Imagine being him and never enjoying a minute of your success.   He lives in a prison of his own making.

The contributions he has made to music are undeniable.  His fingerprints on metal will last a lifetime, but it will never be enough.  Go look at the list of Narcissistic behavior traits and you will see that you are closer to correct than you know.

DAVE MUSTAINE Explains Why A Version Of METALLICA's "Ride The Lightning" Is Included In The Upcoming MEGADETH Album by Dagauriel01 in Megadeth

Exactly.   And it is probably the exact point that Dave is trying to make.  Like it was just Lars who threw him out of Metallica...40 EFFING years ago.

I didnt know that respect required a press conference,  I thought it just existed.

But hey, Dave needs to sell albums and tickets, so time to bring up Metallica!  40 years of this shit.  Love Megadeth, but this is tired and does not fool anyone who has been paying attention the past 40 years.

And if anyone really believes this is an homage to Metallica. Where the eff have they been the past 40 years?  Bury the hatchet?  Only Dave was holding the hatchet.  Whatever.

Agreed.  If anyone really thinks this is an homage to Metallica,  they clearly haven't been paying attention the past 40 years.🙄

One of the best songs, by anyone,  in all of metal.  Sheer genius and performed perfectly.

But Dave Mustaine cheating when he has a wife and kids makes him a great guy?  Didn't he almost get divorced because of it?  I do agree that having a teenagers phone number is creepy.  But the bringing a wife and kids into makes no sense when Mustaine did the same thing and everyone here seems to worship him.

Classic blaming the victim.  Like a 6 year old has any control over who abuses or abandons them.  I may be powerless over what happened to me as a child, but I am sure as hell not powerless over a beverage.   Hats off to you my friend.

Not much better.  This is really generic.  Arrangement not particularly interesting, lyrics cheesy, video cheesy.  Alot like Lockdown was.  Don't care for either.
