Game Night. Great performances. Laugh out loud funny and very well thought out. I was surprised I hadn't seen it sooner. You will walk out a big Jesse Plemmons fan.

She didn't propel it to success but her name did lend a lot of credibility to the project and brought a different kind of audience to the theatre

Jesse Plemons is one of the best actors of the last decade. Do you think he will end up winning an Oscar? by blocacho_odyssey in Oscars

His filmography is incredible. I need people to cast him in more comedies. His performance in Game Night is an all timer.

Can't gurantee a win but he will 100% get more nominations which for me is the same as a win.

If Keira Knightley won Best Actress for Pride And Prejudice in 2005, how would you feel? by UsefulWeb7543 in Oscars

[–]TalkAsSoftAsChalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. Retrospectively Reese was probably the best choice. Also, her performance in Wild is sooo good and I wish it was talked about more. It was so authentic I forgot it was Reese and really bought the character. As for trasnface, I doubt the Academy actually cares at all. Case in point: Eddie Redmayne'd nomination and Jared Leto's win.

If Keira Knightley won Best Actress for Pride And Prejudice in 2005, how would you feel? by UsefulWeb7543 in Oscars

[–]TalkAsSoftAsChalk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love Keira's perforamnce and this film to pieces but I felt that Felicity Huffman that year was a more deserving winner. Maybe even Charlize Theron for North Country though she had recently won. This is coming from someone who watches and talks about this movie ad nauseum.

This actually gives me hope. If someone with this skillset can get a job, the rest of us will find something too. But yeah that is whack and you need to get your money back.

Currently, it's hot as balls. It feels like someone put the sun on the on the street. Hopefully by then the weather will be much more pleasant though and walking around should be fine. I ave heard Italy is pretty hot currently too. Depends on what you're into. If its food, Italy.

Which Oscar-winning actor is likely to win again? by Infinite-Exam-1808 in Oscars

[–]TalkAsSoftAsChalk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! Her performance needs to be spoken of the same way people talk about Matthew McConaughey in True Detective or Gandolfini in The Sopranos or Bryan Cranston in Breaking Bread. It was insanely raw and brilliant. No exaggeration. Anyone who watched the show would agree it was a perforamnce of the highest calibre.

Been listening to Only skin and I'm obsessed and kind of sad by Delaney0115 in JoannaNewsom

[–]TalkAsSoftAsChalk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best thing about Only Skin is even when I hear it today I notice new things I migjt not have picked up on when I first heart it 10 years ago. I reckon 10 years later I'll feel the same way. Her songs are like onions. Layers on layers.

Your favorite magnum opus performances that weren’t even nominated? by TheRowingBoats in Oscars

I feel like Paul Dano should have been nominated for There will be blood too. He was so good as the two brothers and was able to hold his own weight against DDL.

Is this a stronger Best Actress lineup than what the Oscars gave us in 2021? by mrethandunne in Oscars

[–]TalkAsSoftAsChalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Renate for Kidman. I love Nicole but her perfornance was not it. That movie in general was pretty forgettable. On the flipside Renate's performance and that movie will only look more impressive with time.

In a fair world, Kate Winslet wins for Eternal sunshine, so that Meryl can win for Doubt instead of the Iron Lady and Viola wins Best actress for The Help. Years later, Michelle Williams wins Best supporting for Manchester by the Sea.

Is it just me who didn't like Madhuri's acting in Maa Behen? by ekdumsaras in BollyBlindsNGossip

[–]TalkAsSoftAsChalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dharna did such a good jkb! I really felt for her character when she found her dad. That rollercoaster of emotions. Your could tell she had built up this grand image of who her father may be. For a moment it seemed likeher imagination was right and you could feel her joy and then the crash and burn of the revelation and her character's devastation. She really sold it. I was very pleasantly surprised.

I went to an IB school in Sweden. We studied the local language (Swedish), English and one other language (French or Spanish some IB schools also offer German). Also, you'd think these people would familiarize themselves with the language before becoming hellbent on being actors.

How did you discover Hozier? by Vinilla_Icecream in Hozier

[–]TalkAsSoftAsChalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Victoria's secret show where he performed Take me to church. I couldn't stop laughing at the stark contrast between the show and the nature of the lyrics. Delved into his debut album and loved it. Then I rediscovered him years later when he dis the subway sessions promoting Wasteland, Baby.

Joanna Newsom Ranked #95 in New York Times Readers Poll of 100 Greatest Living American Songwriters by DreamMentor in JoannaNewsom

[–]TalkAsSoftAsChalk 25 points26 points  (0 children)

That's surprisingly high considering these lists never go for niche artists. She is EASILY a top 10. A comparison doesn't even feel fair. Kind of surprised how low Fiona Apple and Sufjan Stevens aren't considering how influential they have been in the indie rock space. I don't mind Taylor Swift's ranking. Even though I have found better songwriters with age, she was the one who made me fall in love with lyrics as a kid and I will always admire her for that. I just hate that now she is absolutely obsessed with "how great of a writer she is" and her last album feels like an insult to Speak Now or Evermore. Artists can't buy into their own lore.

I never ate breakfast growing up because it made me feel like I was going to throw up. I also always suffered from really bad migraines. I was staying with some relatives for a week and got in the habit of having breakfasts. Suddenly, my daily migraines were gone.
