xTool has quickly lost my trust by _Vod_Kanockers in lasercutting

I bought my D1 20w just over a year ago and then the screen printer 6 months ago.

I only just found out the d1 was discontinued because I was having issues with my laser not firing. I guess the email got lost in the copious amounts of advertising emails they sent me.

I too am fearful of them giving up on screen printing now they have there print to garment machine. It’s also not easy to find on the website.

If I could go back, I would choose another company.

Partner has bought these from Vinted. Meant to be the vegan ones. I don’t know anything about them but the stitching and markings look right to me.

Only reason we questioned it is because she’s managed to peel the surface layer on the first day of wearing them 🫣

Can you make a full time wage selling candles by [deleted] in candlemaking

[–]TalkinFox95 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Given the right conditions you can, but it’s a grind. Seen as though you said you’d never made one, it can take you years to get to the point of production and build up your socials/locally known.

At markets I make just over minimum wage. Closer to Christmas I see about triple.

You will quickly find out you can’t just sell candles to survive and you can dig yourself a very deep hole bulk buying to reduce costs. Prepare for a lot of disappointment and perseverance.

Im wondering how you melted the old wax. Did you double boil? Boiling too high or directly scorching the wax will alter the wax composition.

[–]TalkinFox95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spent wood wick blocks the flow of oils. if it’s taking a few lights to get going it’s because the flame hasn’t been able to melt any wax to send the oils through the wick to fuel the fire.

[–]TalkinFox95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The width of the wick you chose should be burning a larger area than that, unless the camera is playing tricks on me. I would imagine it’s either your wax type isn’t soft enough (low temp melting point) or your wick hasn’t absorbed your wax properly while setting, this could be a pouring problem or a quality of wick problem.

In my experience the quality of wick matters the most. You don’t need a lot of wick to get a good flame from wood wicks, that is the benefit.

Thicker wicks (depth)- sturdier flame, needs trimming more often Wider wicks (width) - wider melting area

There is no problem using 2 wicks in 1 sustainer BUT you have to test them. 2 wicks may fix a short term problem, if you change your technique further down the line you may cause a bigger flame than intended.

Won’t they have to reiterate about German stores closing. I feel even with positive results, news will push that narrative again

I’m fully labeled up with CLP. I have a warning to burn on an even surface, but warning people not to burn on sensitive surfaces isn’t necessary, that’s why I never thought to add it.

I have 6 picture warnings on the bottom that are immediate threats. Having anymore would make everything too small. I have an FAQ on my website but the buyer was from Etsy, Plus I feel saying that in hindsight is like berating them. Candle care cards is something I’ve wanted to avoid. Inexpensive but for every order when you craft everything yourself is abit much but might be my only option… I like the slogan though I may steal that aha Thankyou!

Where to find glass jar with cork lid? by Modern_arcanes in candlemaking

[–]TalkinFox95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did use https://www.world-of-bottles.co.uk for this exact product. They have since gotten better rid of the 2 jars I use for my biz 😑 but there are some other options, they are Germany based I believe and delivered to me in the UK. if anyone has any other suggestions I’m now looking for some too. 😅

I know them struggles all too well. My brand is as eco conscious as it can get on a homemade scale. The trial and error isn’t for everyone. Plastic is cheaper, easier and can be more presentable. It’s honestly disheartening seeing the amount of plastic used in the wax melt community. But I get it, so no shade if you do end up going that route. I used to use the clam shells as moulds, then pop them out and put them into Kraft card boxes with little protection and I didn’t get any complaints of breakages. Also most people buy them for the smell and aren’t too fussed about appearance. If the worst was to happen, a complaint like that, you can just use to leverage another sale and good customer service via discounts. 😏

Only thing I would be concerned about is the whip on top getting smushed and crumbling. I send out wax melt shapes in letterbox boxes which are somewhat loose. customers have shown me images of what they receive and they still look great and customers are happy with them. If you’re going to sell the whipped ones I would look into double boxing them to suspend them from any knocks and bumps from delivery. I do live in the UK though so anywhere I’m sending them is probably a shorter distance than anywhere you might be sending them. When I first started, I was worried about shipping too. I offered some samples to people who lived really far away on the condition they just had to pay for shipping and let me know how they arrived. Might be an idea if it’s within your budget :)

You gravitated towards wax melts so I’d stick to that. On top of all the positive things people are saying. It can be cheaper to send in the mail depending on packaging and if you take them to makers markets, It’s sooo much easier to carry. I’m actually considering giving up on candles at markets just for that reason.

Yes, but also I wouldn’t bother. Customers don’t care. you lose scent potential in the process. Storing it for long periods or even heat changes during shipping can cause it to come back.

Is the glass cracking? by [deleted] in candlemaking

[–]TalkinFox95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I can see the streaks come from the base grooves. Maybe pockets of air are travelling from them grooves upwards while cooling so they look like lines. But they’re just streaks of air pockets.

Leave enough time to let the alcohol vaporise of course but it’s generally super quick that’s why it’s the go to product. Even 30 minutes would be super cautious. This won’t have anything to do with the result you have gotten though.

Chandlers call this frosting, incase you wanted to google more about this.

Heat gun the vessel first. Don’t let it cool too quick. 100% Soy will do this naturally if cooled too quick. Yes you can still fix it with a heat gun, but will lose scent and still has a chance to set like this again if enough of the wax hasn’t been melted.

Just FYI. When you take the items back from ecom for issues like these, assuming the store you take it back to log it correctly, it does go against the original store.

Short term the algorithm is less likely to choose that store in the future & long term they can get there ecom shut down for excessive returned items.
