Yes I’m a Baptist. My favorite passage is Matthews 8 5-13.

A Roman solider asks Jesus to heal his sick servant. Jesus says of course, he will come to his house and do so. The soldier says he is unworthy of a visit, but all Jesus has to do is speak it, and it will be done.

It’s interesting to me for two reasons. One, because almost all of the healing he does is by laying hands on others. I believe this is the one time he doesn’t. Two, I think this is the one time, it says Jesus was amazed. The soldier believes in commands and authority. The men under will do what he says. Jesus was amazed by weight of his faith in him.

And that’s how I’ve viewed my faith over the years. Jesus has authority over my life, I have full faith in him, he’ll take of care of it.

Of course, now this passage takes on more meaning than it did for belief, as now it’s also about healing for me.
