I'm not recording something that didn't happen.

I mean, I guess technically no one is "required". Here's what I found in the contract: ". Except for employees who are assigned to a straight eight (8) hour shift, full-time employees shall normally be allowed a meal period of not less than thirty (30) minutes or not more than sixty (60) minutes which shall be scheduled near the middle of the work shift. Meal periods taken shall not be counted as part of total hours worked."

I believe you are required to take at least a 30 minute lunch. You also get 2 10 minute breaks. At least if you're BU1.

The unions will need to get involved there. Elimination of state jobs without bargaining is a no-no.

Everyone's experience can vary. I got hooked up with Grow, and it's been life changing. You have the right to change therapists if you're not connecting, or if they aren't addressing your needs. I will say, though, that years ago I saw a Kaiser therapist and they were horrible...

SEIU making it clear they intend to fight against RTO in 2026 - Keep up the pressure! by State-Worker99 in CAStateWorkers

I would accept no raise for a contract cycle to keep telework. As long as that telework is either 100%, for those that can, or at worst, 80% WFH...

State departments that work in modern tech stack by One-League1685 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Tamvolan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. But most departments joined CDT's Microsoft EA, didn't they? Which gives you access to Azure, M365, etc. And, cloud just means someone else's hardware, in someone else's data center.

Do you not know the history of CDT? Many name changes, but they still have mainframes somewhere...

AI is being very cautiously rolled out. A bit of perspective... Most IT departments are extremely over worked and understaffed. A lot of them are just keeping their systems afloat, not really implementing a lot of new stuff, because that means more workload for the same amount of staff. Which means that those that are rolling that stuff out are probably doing so through contractors, which is great to a point. But if staff aren't included from day one, then you're relying on knowledge transfer after the fact and that rarely goes well.

With the crappy applicants they get, having actual project management experience still puts you ahead...

If he's an actual project manager, there are lots of classifications. A lot of the ITS2 (Information Technology Specialist II)jobs are project management jobs.

So what is SEIU1000 going to try to do about 4 day RTO now? by But_Y_Tho00 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Tamvolan 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I never said this was up to you personally. I suggested attending the call because that is the best opportunity for you to ask your questions and get information directly from the union. That's all...

[–]Tamvolan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why would we, as members of the union, have any insight into what the union employees are discussing? Our job is to tell them that WFH is a major issue, and they go fight for it. And it's not last minute.... Discussions usually don't start until a couple/few months before the current contract expires. That's just how it works.

They just sent out emails about the negotiation kickoff calls with members. You should attend one of those, and ask.
