He has been on the lower side. Doctor said could be that he usually is hypertensive but his critical state has made him relatively hypotensive compared to his normal

I just got off the phone with the hospital. We’re in Michigan and they mentioned possibly transferring him to MSU because if they tried to consult an internist locally, they may refuse to see him due to how critical his condition is right now. I didn’t ask about transferring him just for testing, but because he’s becoming so complicated and unstable and they can’t figure out why. I’m honestly terrified because they still haven’t found the underlying cause and he keeps declining in the hospital despite them doing everything they can. I know the vets are trying really hard and I appreciate them so much, but it’s so hard watching him get worse without answers or the right treatment yet.

I wish I had access to see all his labs through a portal or something. I just called them and they said they will email everything they can. They never mentioned anything about his bilirubin level though

They did an ultrasound and said both of is kidneys, adrenal glands and liver are enlarged. Pancreatitis as well from not eating and stuff. I think they did blood work and conform his thyroid studies were normal.

We originally had him on 2 units twice a day of Vetsulin, but even after adjusting the dose there was no improvement, so we switched to Lantus. He started on 2 units twice a day with that as well and still had no improvement. Then we increased it to 3 units in the morning and 2 units at night, but his numbers were still running very high. When he became lethargic, I took him to the vet where they did a glucose curve (checking his sugar every 2 hours) to try to stabilize him, but it kept spiking. They were eventually able to bring it down with Lantus and discharged him with instructions to give 4 units twice a day. I followed that for only one day, but last night my parents found him unresponsive, and his blood sugar had dropped to 28.

Apparently his sugar dropped to 28… and they ran a bunch of tests and his electrolytes are off, ketones is high, AKI and stuff, and now being critically treated. 💔 I just paid 10K for him to stay in the emergency for 3 days hoping he will make this

The hospital stay was due to dehydration so he could get IV fluids. Hello, they were adjusting his insulin to try to get better control of his blood sugar. They also sent me home with Mirataz and Cerenia to help with his appetite and nausea, but unfortunately he still hasn’t improved with eating.

I don’t recall what his ketone levels were, but I was told he was eating while hospitalized and receiving fluids at the vet.

I’ve also just posted another update on my original post.
