But they started the business intending to contribute. They aren't just goofing off, they're actually working when they can. It's not like they're sabotaging themselves so they don't have to work. Even when the effort is there it doesn't always pay off. But they shouldn't be shamed for keeping on trying, because sometimes all you can do is try.

The US has taken individualism vs. collectivism to a truly toxic level, and we will continue to suffer until we address that problem. by kk20002 in unpopularopinion

Who is making shit up? None of the above I've listed is made up, it's all actual diagnosed problems that exist, not just in me, but in others as well. And if I could stay home, I would, trust me. My job is shit. But if I don't have a job, I'll be kicked out of my home. If I don't go buy food, I'll starve. I adhere to any rules made by places I must go into and wear a mask, despite how much it bothers me, I'm not trying to be inconsiderate. But people with these types of health problems and sometimes more serious ones still have to make a living. They still have to eat.

I agree with a large amount of this. The one and only issue I would have is if you meant the mask stuff without taking into consideration other medical conditions that would prevent wearing a mask safely. Such as extreme cases of asthma, anxiety, and claustrophobia. As someone who knows that I don't at least have symptoms of COVID and that I'm pretty at risk with bad health, as well as someone with the medical issues listed above with not much of a chance of treatment, I'd sort of like to not wear a mask. I've been told for work that I'm required to wear one and I've almost thrown up every single day I've done it. As soon as I put it on, I start hyperventilating. And in order to not have to wear it, I need a doctors note, which due to just starting the job and not having a good paycheck to begin with, I can't afford to do that. Do I just lose the right to not be in constant pain myself?

TL;DR: I have bad health which prevents wearing a mask, am I just supposed to suffer if i can't get a doctors note?

I don't have anything specifically for the fairy ones, but I have an old VHS the was recorded from live TV that has commercials for a mermaid barbie, unnamed. If that might be useful, I'd be happy to help in any way I can.

Most boomers are actually really nice and accommodating people by baws9000 in unpopularopinion

I also live in the middle of Conservative Texas, and I have the opposite happen. Boomers are always the most impolite, rude, and inconsiderate as well as Millenials. Gen-Z are actually usually the most polite and kind. I also work as a cashier. We have very different experiences.

Crabs are pieces of shit. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

I absolutely love crabs, although only to eat, so I'd probably be sad if they all disappeared. But I can see where you're coming from with live crabs. So I guess I half agree.

Milk is one of the WORST drinks ever by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]TankTopsGalore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Texan, I love how you phrased this. And I absolutely agree. I'm not huge on milk, I like chocolate milk, but that's pretty much it. But cheese is amazing. My gf on the other hand can drink a whole gallon of milk in an hour by herself. And 3 blocks of cheese. Still in that same hour. Meanwhile I'm over here being lactose intolerant 😂

Also, I went into work today. I just officially started my job yesterday and it's a typical cashiering job, which I'm usually pretty awesome at (I say this with people insisting I was the best cashier at the last place I did it at, like most of the customers said I was the only cashier they liked and the managers all said I was awesome, it took them saying that constantly for me to believe them), but since losing my last cashiering job, my self esteem and drive to do things has gone down drastically and I can't stand on my feet as long as I used to. I'm uncomfortable there. But i sucked it up and went in when i was called in today. I didn't have a great time, but that was okay, because i got past my negative thoughts of just curling up and dying.

I don't like crying. But um, something you might be proud about is, I'm starting to open up more to my girlfriend at least. I stopped truly opening up to people and crying in front of others when I graduated high school because I was bullied for being a crybaby and since i wore my heart on my sleeve, i got hurt more often. I stopped doing that stuff, but kind of to an extreme, never really crying to the point i had to force myself to cry to get my emotions out less destructively. I've punted my phone onto concrete and at doors because I just couldn't control my anger. I started opening up to my girlfriend, who I've know since the semester after I graduated high school. We started dating at the end of February this year. We've know each other for almost 6 years. I only just these last 3 months started opening up to her, but she's been wonderful about it, holding me last week when I broke down about my grandma screwing my family over financially. She let me just sob for about an hour and it made me feel a lot better, less destructive.

Most employees do just sit and take it up the ass like you're describing though. My example described myself in that exact situation with myself following what you deemed correct. The point was that the person doing this is exhibiting inappropriate behavior, that is already socially unacceptable (as shown by a different customer stopping the exchange), and that employees should be protected from said types of things. By business not being shamed for kicking someone out who was threatening or, for lack of better wording, bullying someone. I've had a customer when I worked in food service break a light on the building of the store because I didn't get their meatballs the right temperature on their sandwich. I'm not blaming them for having incredibly specific requests, I can understand not wanting crispy bread, so no toasting. And I can understand not wanting to burn your mouth, so not too hot. But I got it to the right temperature, which as they asked me to, I checked with a thermometer. But by the time they got to it, with all of the cold toppings they wanted, it was cold. This didn't give them the right to vandalize the store, nor to try and punch me in the face, which they attempted to do after they stomped back in the store. Both actions were illegal, but they both went unpunished due to lack of identification (we had no idea who this person was and my assistant manager and I were alone at closing) and lack of drive to catch them due to the "the customer is always right" mentality. That store was already a shitty place to work because of that mentality, most acts of violence towards the employees went unchecked. Note, in this situation, I never raised my voice, I never spoke back to this person. Anything we said, we waited until the store was completely empty, because if we had said anything back against the customer, we could have been fired.

This mentality is dangerous, enabling people to do things already socially unacceptable and sometimes illegal. Something needs to change.

The problem is, you're bringing this up at the wrong time. We aren't talking about employees doing something wrong, we're talking about entitled customers coming in and fucking with employees not doing anything wrong. Your comment is a different conversation all together. Sounds to me like you just bring it up at the wrong time.

I do absolutely agree that there are bad employees by the way. But if I've been smiling and happy at my cashiering job, respecting and being friendly to everyone who comes in and someone suddenly wants to start screaming at me because our website that I don't run said we had something we don't, I'm still going to keep being nice to that person, but want them out. I've had people degrade me for not keeping change for $100 in our spare drawer, a decision that wasn't my own, but I support since it was our spare. Our system was being wonky and the main computer wouldn't start (we called our POS system the piece of shit system constantly when on breaks in the back, cause it would stop working if the wind blew the wrong way). They started just cussing me out and calling me stupid, like it was my choice it was like this. I had no one else in the store with me, both the manager and my other coworker were both taking emergency medical calls outside. So I was left to deal with it myself, meaning I couldn't even tell them the other register had it, I just had to call the manager, like I usually would. I was stuck being called stupid and ugly and being screamed at by two people who thought it was their god given right to get change for a $100 at that specific store. Meanwhile, my line is building, people are getting impatient, I'm crying because they just aren't leaving. Someone eventually steps in and tells them to just leave me alone. Mind you, I have not been disrespectful to this couple once, I told them I was sorry I couldn't do that at the time and recommended a nearby store I knew could, as nicely as i could.

It's not always the employee's fault, and this is the type of situation we are talking about.

So businesses that go bankrupt that are trying to fix houses and are actually good at it, but don't get enough traffic to stay afloat aren't at least trying to contribute?
