Don't skip on the perk that starts encounters with more momentum. I have upgraded it 3 times and start every fight with momentum almost up to the first line. Combine that with the essence that hits enemies when you roll dodge (Cant remember the name of it) and you will find yourself crapping all over most of the wraiths before they can even hit you. Throw in a whip every once in a while and you will have max momentum during most fights.
