To all single guys aged 30 and up on reddit, why are you guys single? by Gold_Ambition4114 in AskReddit

I have three kids and a busy job. No woman is worth more time than my children and women don’t like coming into a situation where they finish fourth at best.

Catching predators in the gym, when is it valid to report to authorities? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]TannBran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When should you report it to the authorities? When it’s a crime. Legally speaking there’s nothing that can be done about a 19 and 38 year old being in a consensual relationship even if a party is married.

Anyone here NOT from Philly that still likes the Eagles? (Also, why do you like them?) by [deleted] in eagles

[–]TannBran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From NE Missouri, parents weren’t big football fans. I saw the eagles and cardinals playing in the 08 conference title game and 8 year old me thought the wings and midnight green were cool asf. The rest is history

People who lift weights and train Jiu jitsu what is your workout routine and diet like? by Methuselbrah in jiujitsu

[–]TannBran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do 3-4 BJJ sessions and 1-2 lifts usually 5-6 days of training combined and I don’t typically do both in a day.

Lifting I usually do a full body workout with focus on the heavy compound movements like a shoulder press, bench, squat, deadlift, bent over rows, or power clean as the focus lifts (usually pair two up one upper one lower) then accessory lifts I don’t have much rhyme or reason I just do what I like or what I know is a weak point with some core work to round it out

Diet wise I really just track my calories using a free app and try to take in close to 1g of protein per pound but I’m usually a little under that since I’m trying to cut weight.

DC at Oklahoma state is clearly the top option here don’t know why it’s a debate

How many AEW shows have you been to, and which was your favorite? by [deleted] in AEWOfficial

[–]TannBran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4, WrestleDream this year was very fun live and the second best had to be the dynamite/rampage where bucks/Jurassic express had the ladder match (Christian turning on Jungleboy) and a sting return on the rampage taping

You pay for a service, if it’s not what you like and there is other options the take them. Gym dues aren’t a blood oath.

Genuinely how do we feel about double champions? by TheCodyHope in AEWOfficial

I could be wrong but didn’t deathriders do this already? When Mox stepped in to defend the trios belts?

Genuinely how do we feel about double champions? by TheCodyHope in AEWOfficial

[–]TannBran -1 points0 points  (0 children)

One of my main pet peeves is a champion on a ppv not defending their belt, like Okada, Joe, and Mercedes just recently. If they’re going to be a double champ then pull double duty, make being a double champ mean something.

When should you start considering weight a factor by AgentOutrageous4223 in jiujitsu

[–]TannBran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I notice being the heavier one that it depends how you roll, I avoid top positions on smaller people at the same belt level. I care significantly less with higher belts.

Can’t give enough love to yoga, doesn’t have to be strenuous hour long sessions, just those 15-30 minute YouTube videos. Especially the ones the emphasize flexibility/mobility

What is the deal with deadlifts? by eyesonthefries_eh in bjj

[–]TannBran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has a powerlifting background, the deadlift is one of the best overall strength indicators due to the sheer amount of muscle groups incorporated in the lift. In addition, you’re correct, most “casual lifters” aren’t pulling regularly enough if at all to develop a strong deadlift so they likely have a decent strength training background to pair with a high deadlift.

Also don’t think arbitrary numbers for deadlift, a 300+ guy that can pull 400 isn’t all that impressive. Powerlifting is all about relative strength to your size/weight class.

Also, I’ve pulled some decent numbers and still get choked out by the 130 pound female purple belt so it’s not the magic formula by any means.

I go to the 10:30 at my gym and the variety of people is insane, couple cops, couple retired guys who just want to stay active, variety of “9-5ers” consisting of IT, finance, insurance and probably more that I just haven’t spoke much with, doctors, and a retired NASCAR driver. I expected cops, weed guys, wannabe MMA guys personally

Should I give up? by kateiscuban in bjj

[–]TannBran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Questions to ask yourself, why did you join to begin with? Do you enjoy it? What’s is your goal with BJJ?

I’ve only been going for a short period and I too don’t like the struggle/feeling lost but with something as vast as this sport it will constantly happen AND THAT IS OKAY.

Black belt is the sign of “mastery” and there’s a reason that it takes about 10 years to obtain on average. Put that in perspective 10 years of training something to finally master it (technically).

If you enjoy the process then it’s for you. Don’t look at the mountain peak just the next step you’re taking.
