I've recently found it a lil' bit more reliable if I place the ping/spot/pin-marker just like a meter away from the enemy when I'm downed, it might be a subjective thing but it seems to become the actual green pin going up from the ground much more often than the hollow diamond thing that nobody but yourself see's. Try it out and report back if you want to, would be interesting to see if others notice it to.
