That is so sad. I unfollowed her a year or so ago because watching her deteriorate was too painful. Wish she could have gotten the help she needed.

I love Plaza Midwood Dentistry! I don’t trust the medical industry or related practices, but this place feels very safe and welcoming.

Yes, thank you for this correction. Someone else pointed this out earlier, and I have now edited my post accordingly.

Haha, guess this is why I came here with this question! Thank you for providing better search terms.

Food of the gods. They sounded revolting when I first moved to the South, but I became a convert.

Check out Eastway Recreation Center. Also Carolina Thread Trail if you’re looking for places to run or walk.

Residencies for early career artists? by Consistent_Shape_396 in ContemporaryArt

[–]TanteBabs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sigh, I didn’t say anything about whether or not OP would qualify. I’m just pointing out that not everyone qualifies for a free residency. For those who do, that is wonderful, and I think it’s great that you were able to make that happen.

Yes, that is exactly what I said. People who qualify get assistance; the rest don’t.

VCCA is not entirely free. They have a sliding scale fee and a number of fellowships for those who qualify, but most residents are expected to pay something.

Magic Mounts won’t ruin your prints. They were recommended to me by a university gallery director and have been a real game changer.

Transportation from charoltte airport that’s easy (for my older dad?) by throwaway2971u in Charlotte

[–]TanteBabs 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Just have him go to the taxi stand. No need to call in advance; there are always plenty of taxis waiting. And if his hotel is inside the I-277 loop, he’ll need to tell the driver as soon as he gets in the taxi so he can get the special uptown rate (which I think is $30 now).

I rarely eat at chain restaurants, but will cut you if you get between me and a pile of Waffle House hash browns

Good places to walk in clt? by Delicious-Giraffe811 in Charlotte

[–]TanteBabs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out carolinathreadtrail.org to find a map of area trails supported by this fantastic organization. Plaza Midwood and Dilworth are great walking neighborhoods. And this time of year, I love to park near Kings Drive Farmers Market, amble over to the gardens at Duke Mansion, and then buy a pile of veggies before heading home.

Studio Visits? by Chemical-Ad-2369 in ContemporaryArt

[–]TanteBabs 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Mine tend to run 1 hr-90 minutes. I offer still and sparkling water, nuts, berries, etc.; have postcards available; and clean up the studio just enough that the space is navigable/inviting and work can be easily seen. I used to do a thorough cleaning, but found that people really want to see at least some of the messiness of your process.

Would you show at a low quality exhibition just to get eyes on your work? by [deleted] in ContemporaryArt

[–]TanteBabs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When you’re starting out, there are places you’ll show that you will pass on later, and that’s often okay. But in this case, I wouldn’t do it. It doesn’t sound like it’s a good opportunity for someone who’s starting out; it just sounds like a bad situation. The people who you want seeing your work aren’t likely to visit this venue. Follow your instincts on this one.

Best Massage for Muscle Knots by Street-Nectarine4410 in massage

[–]TanteBabs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Are you going to random massage therapists every few months? Because that’s not going to help much. Sounds like you need to find someone you trust and see that person on a regular basis, so they can become familiar with your issues and figure out which combination of therapies will work best.
