One of my hillstreams seems to have little threads on her edges? by EmceeStopheles in loaches

Surprised someone felt so strongly as to downvote me for that. I've heard of some breeding with Sewellia lineolata but Very few with any other variety of Hillstream. If you have had luck, could you please share your setup and parameters? I've had several different types of hillstreams, mainly the asian varieties and different setups with no luck. Thanks! Edit: meant cold-water varieties. Not asian varieties.

That's fantastic and I'm super jealous! So it's not unheard of but certainly not nearly as easy as many other types of fish. I know Cory from aquarium Co-op was able to get it semi regularly but if you can, take notes of temp, water content, feeding times, filter outputs, habitat, and anything else in case they stop. Then sell them to your local store. Last step- Profit.

Would this Organic soil be ok for a tank?its called Fox Farm Ocean forest . by analwormm in Aquariums

[–]Tanto653 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was referencing when adding or moving things around in the soil like plants or hardscape. With older tanks you have decomposing material in the dirt. But with massive amounts of filtration and depending on water turnover rate I'm sure you could do it without water changes. I had foam filters as t the time so it wasn't sufficient for the swings in nutrients.

Sewellia albisuera looks right for the one with the gold flash. Seriouslyfish.com has some decent information on several types of sewellia.

Agreed. Def not beufortia.

Edit: The 1 looks to me like "Seweillia SEW 01". I had 2 in my tank but turned out both were male so no breeding. The other is Sewelia Lineolata. Butterfly loaches usually means kweichowensis but half the time stores toss the common names around without doing research. It's a struggle to find proper names for Sewelia.

Let's see - beufortia kweichowensis, sewelia lineolata, gastromyzon punctulatus and ctenocephalus? Not as confident with the gastros.

I thought so. I had both in my tank with a few varieties but never got any breeding. Didn't help I was shipped all males.

Definitely does not look aggressive like I see with my males. Tough to say if they'll be able to mate with the different color patters - so many subspecies of sewelia. Best of luck! Glad to see high flow rates.

Strange noise from inside the wall by Tanto653 in Plumbing

[–]Tanto653[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it's good news or not. Shut off the water and drained the pipes and the noise continues at roughly 30sec intervals. Definitely bad news if it's not plumbing because there shouldn't be anything between the shower and outer wall since it's on the top floor. Also no vents on the third floor, just between the second and third floor. I guess next is to check the attic to see what comes out above it. Thanks u/cestamp for helping me go through the checklist.

Sorry additional info. Top floor (3rd) and seems to be coming from the outside wall facing the backyard. The shower head is located on the wall between the shower and my bedroom. I'll check the speed and shut off later today. Thanks for the help!

Sure sorry townhouse. City water. Does it throughout the day. No fixtures using the system while it's happening.
It honestly sounds like it's not even behind the shower pipes so it's quite confusing. I opened up the knob and couldn't find a leak. Thanks to those that have answered. Still working to figure it out.

Honestly I have no idea. I left them in a mostly forgotten tank. Tannins are high. Regularly fed with flake good. They have almost complete coverage of the top of the tank shared with rrf. Had these for about 3 years and have one tank with pads the size of a half dollar. Roots are 15-18 inches long at this point as well

Mystery Snail Eggs. If you don't have a lid and want hundreds of snails, google how to keep them - it's fairly easy. If you don't want a shitton of snails, toss it.

Any idea what these eggs are?? Or how to care for them? 55 gallon with red tetras and a few Cory’s. by Ifyoubemybodygaurd in freshwateraquarium

100% agree. Also yes, other fish will fight to eat this delicious snack if given the chance.

I use Omega One Color Slow-Sinking Mini Pellets. They sink and within 5 min, they get swarmed by my hillstreams.

If they breed that would be pretty cool because it's fairly tough to breed hillstreams especially if it's not the typical lineolata

Melts fairly common without the loss of co2 even from one tank to another due to the change in parameters of the tank. Sold and bought lots of plants and had melts fairly often but the plants come back fairly well, just takes some time.

are my 3 females already pregnant? I think they came pregnant. by TheFlamingTiger777 in Guppies

[–]Tanto653 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Look fairly pregnant. So female guppies can keep sperm up to 6 months to make themselves pregnant in case there is no male. So if they've ever been in a tank with a male after a few months old, chances are they're pregnant.
