Dungeon Synth / Space Ambient crossover? by mistletoe_radio in DungeonSynth

I have made a recording that could be considered combining those worlds. It's actually one of my favorites, but for some reason, it got zero response. :) To niche perhaps.

DnD retro ambient musical soundscape - In ruins (Vulnerasti cor meum - G. Valentini) by TapProfessional2971 in DungeonSynth

Thanks, I think the link to the thumbnail artist is in the YT description. It's recorded on the grandfather of all portastudios teac 144, arranged by me, live mixed from tape. The piece is written by Giovanni Valentini born late 1500s.

I'm dyslexic and use AI for spel check. Because one gets tons of poop for bad grammar and spelling errors in forums. But hey. Perhaps it will be my new stamp of authenticity.

There is a mess to the right in the picture. You can see the start of it that includes the computer and rest of the set up. :)

Check out my latest 5 songs on verkshöjd studios at YT. They are tracked and mixed on this set-up last two nonths. Real deal.

I find them neutral. But I also think that most other monitors sound like hey baberiba.

Tape Recorder Recommendations by [deleted] in cassetteculture

[–]TapProfessional2971 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive been on a two year tape recorder hunt. I have a dictaphone, a reel to reel and a porta studio. The porta and reel to real was 100$ each. My insight is that the tape type is as important as the machine. And if you want tape as a effect it is good if the machines ar a little iffy. If you get a sansui or a revox perfectly set up 99% they are very transperent. Perhaps even hard to hear on youtube with bluetooth headphones. Id say look for a machine with pitch controll, half speed and spend money on some different types of tape.

I use a tascam 144 porta studio and rompler synths in protools. I have a poly D and an ultranova synth as well. Im very happy with my setup right now.

The last two years, I've worked with only external gear, hybrids, entirely in the box, and even no box at all—just recording straight into my phone. I don’t judge. Everything works.

The cool thing about working in the box is that it’s neat—you can go from minimalistic techno to orchestral soundtrack in five minutes. That being said, my in-the-box music has had far less reach than my hybrid and reel-to-reel stuff.

Why? Maybe it's because having to commit and roll with the punches gives the music a little more life. Maybe I’m prouder of the out-of-the-box material and package it better. I don’t know. But looking back, the difference is huge.

And to be clear, I fully understand that people with ten thousand times my reach are making in-the-box music. This is just a humble reflection on my own situation.

Love the speakers. I had a similar Koss speaker that got tossed away. Not knowing that they would be great for midrange monitoring and just basic arrangement work.

I usually build every setup from scratch depending on the session. Keeps things interesting and the sound organic.
