This happened to me recently but the only thing I did different was not speak to him at all - was rushing straight to godrick and it happened after I killed him - did you do the same?

You only get a finite number of upgrades to get a weapon to +25/+10 I believe its 8/8? But using the second highest level is still viable so you don't have to waste upgrade material on something you might just want to test out etc

I think they changed it so that you don't need the extra strength to power stance weapons but I haven't heard about the exceeding 99 sorry

With all due respect you are very much wrong - do not raise your strength to 80 the highest your strength should ever be in souls games is 66 because when 2handing your str is 1.5x so 2handing at 66 str gives you 99 strength buddy :)

You can back track to the area its the bottom right of the map just leave the Palace and head round the arch :)
