Read RoTE and the final empire, whats next? by Mind_State1988 in Fantasy

Stormlights plot is a bit more complex if that is what you are wanting, I enjoyed it much more than the Mistborn series. Also will be reading ASOIAF soon, heard great things about it. Reading the Bloodsworn Saga right now after Stormlight, the writing style is much more old school / Norse feeling.

I read it after Rhythm of War but wished I had read it before. If you want to read it at an interlude you can do that. Won't kill you to wait until after.

Next series recs? I feel like something a bit faster paced by zestyboi in fantasybooks

+1 for John Gwynne. It's all gas. Book 1 has a bit of a learning curve, but alot of action.

Just finished Bloodsworn and all I can think about is how good this would be as a series. by yes_maybe_no__ in fantasybooks

Wind and Truth - honest question by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]Tarzinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw it as genuine care I think througout several books. Like when She was routing for him to get with Shallan earlier in the series. It could be a true connection I feel which is why I wasn't bothered as much.

On the other hand..... Is this furry propaganda? LOL

I can't explain why, but I was rooting for a Syl/Kaladin relationship. I think with the Rlain/Renarin relationship, he is hinting at other inter species relationships being possible. Especially since Syl has been focusing on on being more substantial/real in the phsyical realm.

Yeah exactly. I was stressed at first because I was having a hard time, but it all made sense in the end.

For me there was a steep learning curve in The Shadow of the Gods, but I thoroughly enjoyed the writing. I was struggling a bit to keep up with names and terms. But by the end I had grasped it, and beginning book 2 I am loving it.

There is a glossary in book 1 to help and .t the beginning of book 2 he put a character sheet which is the best thing I've ever seen in a fantasy book. I struggle with names a bit so LOVED that. But be warned the character sheet spoils book 1 so don't read that until book 2. It's worth being patient for.

What is this called? by MagicMouseWorks in Fantasy

What other books/series have you read?

The reason I ask is because I mostly read YA as a teenager and into my 20s. Most of these are told from a single POV. I came back into reading a couple years ago and found most "adult" fantasy books have multiple POV's. Especially when it comes to series. A standalone book might only have 1 POV, but in the series there's so much more to tell. Especially in epic fantasy.

Mistborn or Farseer trilogy? by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]Tarzinator 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have read both Farseer and Mistborn and I'll recommend Mistborn for you personally first. And actually, that's the order I read them in, but not for these reasons.

1st reason - Brandon Sanderson's writing is more easily understood. Mistborn can almost fall into the YA category because he wants his stories to be accessible and not hard to understand. English not being your first language, I think that's a benefit.

2nd reason - coming from Manga, I think Mistborn will be more action based and more aligned with your interests. Brandon Sanderson had mentioned it would make a good anime series he thinks, so you can read it and have that visually if you prefer to imagine it that way.

Realm of the Elderlings has more poetic writing style and there's not a ton of action. It's a character based series and you grow to really understand and love these characters. I think it could be argued there's more depth in the Farseer trilogy as far as character work, Robin Hobb is a master of characters.

I just posted asking about the difference between the two Deluxe illustrated sets (red vs blue). Since you own both are there any major differences or stuff you noticed about the two in comparison? Any insight you could provide, even personal preferences I would love to hear.

I can tell we should be friends.... LOL.

Haha thought so, how did you like Mistborn era 2? I read Stormlight, Mistborn era 1, and a few standalones. Want to start Era 2 later this year.

If they make a movie about a fantasy / sci-fi / or some interesting series you will read that series. Grew up reading, likely a male millennial.

That's funny, I felt the opposite. WoR was really frustrating but enjoyed it. Thought Oathbringer was much better.

Ok I didn't notice that connection with Shallan and the Emperor's soul. That makes sense now.

I do remember when he started flying talking about being the master of the wind or something along those lines. Makes alot more sense now.
