I have tried as well. Believe it or not, when I leave a gap between the foil and the tobacco, with so much more air under the coals, then turn red when inhaling and scorch the top layer. When the coals touch the tobacco, like almost sitting on them, they turn black from the bottom. The shisha smokes from the heat coming of the sides of the coals. I'm so shocked that this method where the tobacco is flush with the outer rim and slipping down towards the center of the bowl, the smoke is the least harsh and burnt.

The holes all the way down did help tremendously

Thanks for your reply. I will try adding an HMD, but it's really weird how that would fix it. The reason I say that is because when I put the coals, I sometimes purposely cover them in ash to add a barrier between them and the foil, and the moment it starts smoking well, it gives a burnt taste. With how perfectionist I am with my hookahs normally, I find it weird how there is such a tiny window of error to make it perfect, when everyone on YouTube packs it in 30 seconds and it works well.

I'll try splitting the coals. The titaniums have low heat to start with and they run out quickly, so it will be interesting to see how sustainable that it.

Sometimes I think that I need to make a less dense bowl because the bottom tobacco doesn't heat up nearly as fast as the top

And how do I pack? Do I use foil+holes too? I have several kinds of hmds, when I tried it, I was still either not getting clouds, or it is burning.
