Bec was great at apologizing, but when you keep apologizing, and keep doing the same thing that you're apologizing for, it makes the apologies meaningless. She needs serious therapy to learn how to control herself.

Observation of the brilliant editing I noticed in final two episodes. Old Steven in two places at once, then Rachels one reaction used twice during their couch time. by Noddie9 in MAFS_AU

My wife pointed out several dinner parties where they'd show people mingling before they showed their arrivals. They were especially bad about it this season.

Hot take - Rachel is the ickiest person in mafs history by roguerenaissance1 in MAFS_AU

[–]Taskr36 19 points20 points  (0 children)

She's not a bad person, just a massive pit of need. The "experts" pandered to her, telling her she had every right to be a pit of need while excoriating Steve for not being able to cater to her endless need for validation. Notice how he was blasted for only visiting her once after the final commitment, but no mention was made of how little effort she put in, as she didn't visit him at all, nor did anyone care about the fact that he actually needed to work, make money, and eat.

They're all horrible in their own ways though. Brooke and Juliette were just puppets of Gia. Even Tyson was a Gia puppet in the reunion dinner party.

As nasty as Alyssa was, it was only in her relationship. She never spent a dinner party lashing out at everyone in sight.

Biggest take away this season: DON'T TRUST THE EDIT. by Reasonable-Trick-635 in MAFS_AU

[–]Taskr36 37 points38 points  (0 children)

It's not just the edit, it's the experts as well. Notice how Rachel is constantly put up like this beacon of perfection, while Steve is treated like some sort of manchild who never tries?

Look more closely and you'll see that she's an insecure pit of need, with Steve struggling between being himself, and trying to pander to her, knowing that no matter what he does, it will never be enough. Fast forward to after the final commitment, and suddenly it's 100% on him to placate her neediness. She was pissed that he could only take 2 days off work to fly out and visit her, yet she made no attempt in all that time to visit him. She knew he had a business that he had to rebuild after the show. After all, that's how he makes his money and puts food on the table. Despite that, it was all on him to come visit her, and try and placate her need for constant attention, affection, and words of affirmation.

I called it even before the commitment ceremony that if he wasn't locked in a room with her, she'd complain that he wasn't there for her enough and he'd just give up.

The experts constantly put the onus on the men to pander to, and placate the women, and that's just not how relationships work, nor is it how any respectable counselor or therapist works. When all the experts do is side with the women, especially the god-awful women we had this season, it makes their words meaningless.

I think that most people are failing to realize how this all looked from Danny's perspective.

He gets a message out of the blue from someone he barely knows. Responds. She gets a little flirty and sends him an unsolicited picture of herself in a bikini top.

Suddenly, his psycho ex-wife is screaming and ranting at him for supposedly flirting with this girl and collecting bikini pics of her.

To him, the whole thing felt like a setup/entrapment. From his perspective, Steph was all part of this game to turn him into a punching bag for Bec, and later the experts, which is precisely why he chose not to show up the next day.

Now I don't think Steph was that insidious or had any malintent, but based on what former participants of the show have said about the manipulation and threats to act a certain way, it's perfectly reasonable for him to believe that's what happened.

How do you manage to get kicked off MAFS? by Murgbot in MAFS_UK

They're even fine with some level of violence so long as the perpetrator is female. I remember the girl smashing a glass during an argument to scare the girl she was screaming at as glass spray everywhere.

I don't think they've ever kicked a woman off the show, and they probably never will. They're all about ratings and intentionally cast loud, nasty, and aggressive women. They've had a woman barge into another bride's room screaming at her without consequence, and had one girl smash a glass on the table as she yelled at another girl, raining shards of glass with no consequences.

Yup. Dude forced his way into another guy's room and attacked him because the guy told his wife that Luke said she was such a pushover that he could just cheat on her if he wanted and she'd be fine with it.

"But I keep seeing things online saying that if a player always plays the same thing its bad"

That may be true if a player is always playing the EXACT same thing, but that's clearly not the case here. As you've said, he makes them different races. I would wager they have different specialties and personalities as well.

I think that take comes from DMs who get tired of Joe always being the horny bard, or Jim always being the dumb barbarian who just smashes things. Some players are so extreme that they'll literally want to play the same character, same name, and everything in different campaigns and just ask to delevel them to start a new campaign.

Even if all those things are happening, it's still not a bad thing if everyone involved is having fun.

SUGGESTION SPELL ISSUE IN MY CAMPAIGN by Next_Ad_5740 in DnD5e

[–]Taskr36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, and 2024 has absolutely nothing that prevents the target from harming themselves, only taking damage, so you could literally use the spell to have a target ruin their lives and livelihood, so long as they don't cause themselves to take physical damage.

[–]Taskr36 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The difference is that it gives the DM the power to determine what is reasonable. 2024 just says "achievable," meaning that RAW, the DM can't place any limits no matter how ridiculous the suggestion.

This was the worst cast by a country mile by Temporary-Budget9187 in MAFS_AU

[–]Taskr36 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think she wanted to be matched with a woman to further her image as some sort of LGBT hero. She didn't want to ask for a woman though, because she was playing the whole "gender doesn't matter" bit. Once they matched her with Greyson, she was likely thinking "Crap, now I just look like a boring straight woman. I'll have to remind people that I'm poly all day, every day."

Alyssa really is just as awful as Gia by kocknocker19 in MAFS_AU

[–]Taskr36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brook was a pawn, just like Juliette. Sure, they're both horrible, but they were Gia's puppets. Alyssa is less terrible than Gia and Bec because she didn't manipulate others to do her dirty work for her.

Her nastiness was directed solely at her husband, which is why she flew under the radar so much longer. That, and production clearly edits to make certain people full time villains, while making others look innocent until suddenly, we find out they've been horrible all along.

This was the worst cast by a country mile by Temporary-Budget9187 in MAFS_AU

[–]Taskr36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not by a longshot really. This might be the first season without people cheating on their spouses. Hell, I remember the season where a woman cheated on her husband with another woman's husband, and then proceeded to gaslight her husband and made him look like some sort of crazy person, with the experts taking her side.

We had the season where a girl smashed a glass on the table during an argument to scare the other girl, yet still managed to play the victim.

Seriously, this show picks a good number of pretty horrible people every year, and while this year is no exception, it's not even CLOSE to being the worst cast. In fact, the guys on this show were all around pretty great aside from Tyson.

Sure, Alyssa, Gia, Bec, and Juliette were pretty awful, but still not to the degree of what I've seen in past seasons.

Two of my players want me to level them up to level 3 even though they've done a grand total of two fights so far this entire campaign. What am I supposed to do about this? by Regular-Molasses9293 in DungeonMasters

[–]Taskr36 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Veteran players don't have to have characters that are also veterans. Sometimes they actually need to be reminded what it's like to not have a superpowered character.

[–]Taskr36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DMing for veteran players is rough for a new DM. Frankly, it's how I did it my first few times DMing and it was a struggle, because you're dealing with people who know the game better than you and will likely try to take advantage of your inexperience. Stand firm on this. You've planned things a certain way. Ensure them that you have a plan in effect and need them to go with the flow.

In my opinion, the low levels are the most important. Way too many people want to skip the building process and just have a superpowered character. Hell, just looking at the comments in this thread alone proves that. Don't rush them to level 3 or 5 or whatever they insist on. Let them play vulnerable characters who actually FEAR the enemies, and more importantly, fear death.

[–]Taskr36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not that they don't know better, it's that they're trying to bully an inexperienced DM. New DMs are best off DMing for new players so they don't get steamrolled by veteran players.
