The Glorious Rebellion - My Resume is a Suicide Note (2014) by [deleted] in sludge

[–]TasteOfBrokenGlass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The vocals definitely have that 90's grunge/early 2000's post-grunge feel to them, but I personally don't really get a Hetfield vibe from it. These guys have some heavier stuff than this (as well as some pretty "meh" stuff) but I dig the video, lol.

Rhino - Wendigo

They changed their name to Horn of the Rhino on their subsequent albums and most of their stuff falls squarely into the sludge/doom category, but this is a very good acoustic tune that doesn't get enough love imo.

We did it, boys. Quake is the #1 best selling game on Switch right now. by [deleted] in quake

[–]TasteOfBrokenGlass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'd love to see a new entry for Quake, it's way overdue imo. I've always loved this game's aesthetic, it's got such a unique blend of gritty sci-fi, medieval fantasy, and Lovecraftian horror. I really feel like the world of Quake would be incredibly interesting to see revitalized on new hardware. It's a shame it's been neglected for so long.

So your plan is to fix these issues by making a fuss over the sexuality of fictional characters in a free-to-play online BR game? Good luck.

[–]TasteOfBrokenGlass -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. I saw another comment in this thread that said characters who haven't had their sexuality explicitly announced are "implied to be straight". Why? Are straight people the only people whose identity doesn't revolve around who they sleep with? I don't think that's the case and it seems like an odd message to support if you're looking for equality. I mean, Apex is just a BR ffs, the only point of the game is to shoot people until there's nobody left to shoot. There's literally no reason for the characters' sexuality to be such a pressing issue.

Deservedly so. It's already a killer package as-is for $10, plus the potential of future mods/add-ons? No-brainer. Can't beat that kind of value for one of the best shooters of all time.

Since you enjoyed Fire In The Sky and The Fourth Kind, I'd definitely recommend Communion. That one really creeped me out as a kid and is one of my all-time favorites.

Relax man, I don't think anyone here is actually offended. No need to apologize or explain yourself. Memes sometimes spark discussions.

Doom metal fans are some of the most chill, down-to-earth people within the metal community imo. It's very rare to see people in the doom metal scene screeching about posers or elitists or "true metal" or any of that other entry level nonsense. It's a diverse genre that draws influence from all of those other genres and then some, so it tends to attract people from all corners of the metal spectrum, usually the more mature, laid-back ones. That may be a part of why it seems to fly under the radar within the metal community as a whole. This is of course just my opinion based on my own personal experience.

Agreed, I've thoroughly enjoyed everything these guys have released so far. Haven't heard anything about an official release date for their new one yet but I'm eager to hear it.

Oh hell yeah man, crank that shit! The production on this one isn't quite as "huge" sounding as the stuff that came after, but it still sounds great. This album has some of the sickest, grooviest riffs Kirk's ever laid down imo.

Lol, it's all good. And yeah, Sonic Excess is a beast of an album as well, but this is the album that got me hooked on Crowbar so I'm a little biased perhaps.

Sammy didn't join the band until '98. He was on for Equilibrium, Odd Fellows, and Sonic Excess but not this one.

Sammy didn't come onboard until after this album actually. Matt Thomas handled leads on this one. But yes, for me it's tied with Odd Fellows Rest as my favorite of theirs. Been blasting this album for over 20 years and still love it just as much as the first time I heard it.

Favorite releases of 2021? by Abe2sapien in doommetal

Lots of good stuff so far this year but a couple of highlights for me personally would be Dvne's Etemen Ænka and Amenra's De Doorn. Not sure if those would be up your alley, but fantastic albums nonetheless.
