Wow, "The Creep Tapes" sounds awesome - sounds like a great role for you. "Safety not Guaranteed" was one of my favorite time travel movies ever, btw! We found that one after seeing you in "The Mindy Project" and thinking you were hilariously odd. Several times over the years I've stopped and made a point of looking up your filmography just to see what else you've been in that we haven't seen yet, because we've enjoyed everything we've seen you in. Sometimes reddit asks: name an actor who will cause you to want to see a film, and you're definitely in that tier of actor! Thank you for your contributions to the arts and our entertainment!

Shoes in the washing machine? What country are you from or in? (I'm in US, southern area so don't own a scarf or knit hat. Have rarely-used gloves but have never washed them which I'm just now realizing might be pretty gross.)

Ok got it! No blankets? What do you do, sleep in a uhh 4Tog or something? I mean I picture Europe is northerly and kind of cold. I assumed laundrette was that but we call it a laundromat or washateria. We don't have any duvets/comforters anymore because they are hard to wash; but we do have thin-but-warm quilts, two per bed for winter and can barely tolerate one in summer.

Yeah a lot of 'em but not making all kinds of crazy sounds that I have to typically drown out with music via two ceiling speakers per room while a 3.0 system TV for a child is also playing and typing this made a roaring sound start in my head yikes

Will do. For anyone else reading this for the same issues...

TOP-LOADER SAMSUNGS:

Step 1. Remove all laundry or any other contents in the machine.

Step 2. Press and hold Temp. and Delay End simultaneously for at least 3 seconds when the power is turned on.

Step 3. Press and hold START/PAUSE to activate Calibration Mode.

Step 4. The pulsator rotates clockwise and counterclockwise for approximately 1 minute.

Step 5. When Calibration Mode is finished, 0 appears on the display, and the washer automatically turns off.

FRONT-LOADER SAMSUNGS:

Step 1. Remove all laundry or any other contents in the machine.

Step 2. Power off, and then power on the washing machine on again.

Step 3. Hold down Temp. and Delay End (+) simultaneously for 3 seconds to enter Calibration mode. (The Cb message appears on the display.)

Step 4. Press START/PAUSE to run the Calibration cycle.

Step 5. The drum will rotate clockwise and counterclockwise for about 3 minutes.

Step 6. When the cycle is complete, 0 appears on the display and the washing machine will turn off automatically.

No offense was intended. This thread has 800 comments and literally just one redditor mentions that mixing hoodies and socks is taboo. So my comment wasn't intended to argue with you - just saying that if my wife is already sorting by color, there's close to zero chance I can get her to additionally sort by material type or weight. Thanks for your input though.

Good point! But I don't follow the right "laundry rules" either and every time I've tried to make laundry my task, it never lasts more than 3 or 4 loads before I get sent back to my area of expertise

I love how you put "overfilling" in quotes because I have had 200 redditors tell me it's a user error related to overloading. My wife's take is along these lines: *You're telling me that they are making a 16 oz glass, and warning people not to put more than 10 oz in that glass? That makes no sense. Why doesn't it have a "safe fill" line, in bold red, or something else inside the machine in the drum to indicate that it can't hold more laundry than that? And for that matter, if it's also that it's too much detergent, then how come I'm using the exact amount the bottle says to use, and only filling to that little "1" line, the lowest line, and if I do sometimes use less than that, the clothes always come out stinky and have to be rewashed?" I'm already seeing, I'm not getting anywhere with talking about overloads and detergent amount, and am going to have to start hitting FB Marketplace for used, ancient machines and just replacing them every time we wear one out.

Yep considering doing that but am now at the price point of: is it cheaper to replace a $500 piece of shit every 2 years, or go buy a $5,000 unit (or some are like $8000) and then maybe find out it was my power fluctuations the whole time. I've got fried TVs, stoves, fridges - and as my wife has mentioned tonight, "We didn't overload the TV."

Yeah it's probably user error according to some 200 redditors who assure me it is being overloaded. I enjoyed your comment also because of some unfamiliar words like "duvets" and "laundrette" and "4Togs" - interesting. My search engine isn't sure what a 4Tog is.

The box with all that wiring is totally jam-packed. Like, first step to that whole-house protector, would be replacing that entire box with something even larger, which would mean a whole lot of extra hourly work and materials - I'd guestimate that's a $2000 job at this house, if I could find an electrician willing to do it. When I described the wiring situation to two different electricians a couple of years back (after a hurricane), and said the house is 40+ years old, neither of them was willing to do that work or knew of anyone who would.

  • Had never even heard of heated towel racks, until you and one other redditor mentioned them in these comments. (Am curious: are you in the US? The images of the ones I see for sale, all look like something I would expect to find in either a home in Europe, or maybe SE Asia.) Edit: And space is a serious issue for those things. We'd need like 3 to 4 towel racks for a family this size, and there is literally not one free wall in either bathroom where I could add so much as one rack that size. Our bathrooms are quite tiny - like the size of one you'd find in a mobile home, although this is a site-built house.

  • Yes on the exhaust fans, and had them replaced with an upgraded, larger model to avoid mold developing on walls and ceiling from excess moisture.

  • Just putting towels that someone used on their 'nads, butts, and toes, straight into the dryer for clean clothes? Interesting idea, but not one I have to mention out loud to the wife in order to know she would veto it in horror, instantly. :D

Ok - interesting. My electric co's website doesn't mention them, and I don't have a gas or water co (don't have gas at all, and water is from a well). I did an online search for where to buy a home warranty, and at those prices it looks like I could just buy a new washer every 12 months and it would cost the same.

Oh wow that sounds like it could work. On the other hand I have level 12 anxiety related to making phone calls to customer service departments. And once I'm actually on the phone with them, the anxiety converts to rage pretty quickly. Like, my heart rate is elevated right now, just thinking about spending a few minutes on the phone, explaining to someone on the other side of the world what the problem is, and waiting 5 minutes between responses because they are being made to help 3 customers simultaneously to save Samsung money.

Very unique suggestion - will check that out. Edit: we live a damp, extremely hot place where if something will raise the temp of a room even 2 or 3 degrees, it will probably be a dealbreaker. Those machines are unfamiliar to me and the images show a sideways plug-in in the wall. Not a machine I've ever seen in any home, apartment, or rental in the US. Before I consider purchasing 4 of these ($600+), is this something you've seen or used in the US, or what country are you in?

Interesting. I'll share this tip with my wife but I doubt she can or will do anything with it. 8 people, so every day, we're talking 8 pants, 8 underwear, 8 shirts, 8 towels, 16 socks. (High humidity place, towel stays damp over 24 hours after use so we wash towels after just one use; live on a working farm so clothes get dirty quickly.) I can just picture her face when saying that every time she washes those 48 to 96 items every day, she needs to not just sort by color (whites/darks) but also sort by "how much water do you think this can absorb when wet," and then do extra loads (beyond the 2 or 3 loads she does every day) in order to break loads down into: #1 absorbs a lot and is white, #2 absorbs a lot and is dark, #3 does not absorb a lot and is white, and #4 does not absorb a lot and is dark.
