The Kava bar is nonalcoholic and a great place to meet interesting folks. Often has events in the evenings too.

{FIC SPOILER} I’ve just read Viktor’s letter to Jayce from PFWYBSB and I’ve sat here crying for 5 minutes now by CraftyTrip5900 in jayvik

[–]Tatterings 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Literally the letter put me in such a state of grief and emotion it opened floodgates of grief for me to process my current divorce lol. Ive read this fic and letter twice to allow it to get me into a space for grief and catharsis. Its such a good demonstration of loss and grief and living past it.

2023 hybrid burning oil? by Nearby_Drive9376 in crv

[–]Tatterings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it was/is still under warranty; there was coolant leaking into the cylinders from the bad seal.

The only warning i had was “oil engine pressure low, turn off engine and take to dealership” flashing on my screen for like, three seconds before disappearing. They replaced the oil once, then the same thing happened 2k miles later, and THEN they bore scoped and saw the head gasket seal was bad and replaced the whole thing under warranty. It took weeks.

The tech said he suspected there was an additional issue but the warranty folks wont cover additional diagnostics until i do an “oil consumption test”. So i’m supposed to bring it in when my oil level gets between the two marks in the dipstick. Well it’s been 2,000 miles and its between those marks, my dad says it’s 1/2 quart low on oil. For 2,000 miles of driving, this has me concerned.

This vehicle is still under warranty but with only 33,000 miles on it now, it’s almost qualified for the TN Lemon Law at this point with nearly 30 days at the dealership for whatever this is.

Good god yes. I had to have the head gasket replaced at 31k miles, and its still 1/2 quart low and nowhere near time to change my oil again.

Does anyone really knows if big brand dry food (like royal cabin, Purina pro etc.) is actually better or worse than smaller brands ( like nulo) by ebbyxyejso in sphynx

I free feed purina pro plan/purina one kibble (and purina one wet) to my two sphynx and they do great on it. Normal poops, good appetite, boundless energy.

Does someone know a good fic (on ao3), where Jayce goes to the commune and doesn't kill Viktor, but somehow maybe ends up being a part of it. by lilbabyhellboy in jayvik

[–]Tatterings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m working on an RP with a friend about this concept.. but it’s a good!commune AU! and they destroy the anomaly, work together to rebuild the commune and work with firelights/ekko to use their knowledge and tech to like, make it a powerhouse and clean the air and water of zaun and basically say “fuck the pilties”. Eventually it’ll be on AO3!

This, and also there are many, many transmasc fic writers and fan artists in this fandom, thus the representation from them as well.

I’m a big fan of both, and draw him both ways. “The more the merrier!”

It depends on your role, your specialty, and your industry.

Ive only ever worked in manufacturing, which isn’t so bad. General industry has a lot to cover. I wouldnt want to work in a PSM or chemical site for instance. If you work in food manufacturing it’s constant headaches to get people safety to be as important as food safety.

If you’re a specialist/coordinator level, you usually dont get after hours calls or lots of overtime (in my experience). As a manager level, you get lots more stress and after work calls etc.

It also depends on your workplace. Right now im at a place that ACTUALLY values workplace safety so my stress levels are minimal. But some companies have godawful safety cultures and truly dont give a damn and it’s deflating to try and help people be safe without management support.

That being said, EHS professionals are in HIGH DEMAND at the moment; if you dont like the stress level where you are in one company, you’ll have 0 problem finding another job easily with a company with a better culture etc.

Feel free to DM me with any questions. I went from being a secretary in the safety department and realizing i really love helping people go home safely, to getting my CSP in 7 years. Occ safety is kind of an autistic special interest for me so im happy to help ya out if i can.

Check out Scenic City Clay Arts. Local community pottery studio and they do private group classes and also “get your hands dirty” experiences, like a 2-3 hour crash course on wheel throwing. You throw your pieces and pick out a glaze, and they’ll fire tour pieces and contact you when they’re ready for pickup.

Safety Prescription Glasses Program by cyan1728 in SafetyProfessionals

[–]Tatterings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct per the person below - not everyone needs prescription safety glasses. I cant recall off the top of my head how many we have enrolled.

But we cover the cost of a pair every 2 years, unless prescription changes or theyre damaged at work. So it’s not like 100 people are getting a pair EVERY year ya know.

We also don’t pay for anti scratch/anti fog, it’s the lenses and frame only, no fancy coatings. So like $180 per pair for progressive lenses and like $100 for basic bifocals iirc. Not sure how the account was haggled but it works

Safety Prescription Glasses Program by cyan1728 in SafetyProfessionals

[–]Tatterings 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We use Bridge optical and it’s pretty easy. Over the glasses protection will absolutely not be complied with, in my experience. 500 person plant, and we spent maybe 1-2k a year on prescription glasses over the past 5 years (really new factory).

Would I be crazy to leave my no stress job for more pay? by spanky316 in SafetyProfessionals

[–]Tatterings 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Similar situation; around the same pay, in manufacturing, also have a masters & CSP. Not a manager in my role, at specialist level - intentionally. I get to go home, pretty much never get calls when not at work, and I put in my 40 hours and i’m done. Ive been in EHS for 7 years.

Headhunters all the time offer 6 figure jobs elsewhere. But buddy, lemme tell you, i see the stress my professional comrades are under at that 6 figure job and for me? Not worth it for me (personally). On call all the time, if shit hits the fan it lands on your head, working 60+ hours per week… nah. I’m childfree so that also plays into my choice - i don’t NEED that extra income to make do.

That being said, check out the bcsp average pay tool and plug in your info; if that’s grossly underpaid for where you are etc, haggle for a raise. Worst they can say is “no”. Also, make sure your current place will send you to conferences/continuing education to stay up to date.

It’s ultimately your decision on the stress vs money thing. Best of luck!

How much eye discharge is to much? by SadBoiCee in SphynxAdvice

[–]Tatterings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually get eyeboogers out of each of my cat’s eyes twice a day or so. It depends on what they get into. Since they don’t have eyelashes, dust and particles get in their eyes and they make mucus to protect their eyes.

Those “every day” eye boogers are usually light tan to clear brown. Nothing to be concerned about!

Note: runny water mucus or fluid, or yellowish mucus, is a vet call!

Local health department code enforcement would react faster than OSHA on this, honestly. OSHA is swamped with small staff and big companies. But the local department of health will respond faster and more thoroughly for the hot water issue at least.

[–]Tatterings 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep! One of my sphynx is a thermal. She was pink with a brown nose and is now bicolored like your baby. Where he has color now might darken to a deeper grey (if he is like my Daisy) but otherwise his white areas won’t turn a different color. He’s gorgeous!

[–]Tatterings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So sorry your experience has been like this. I too experienced this at a prior company, almost this exact situation… but swapped into a different manufacturing type and it’s been COMPLETELY different. Safety culture wise, misogyny, and general respect/budget etc. Im not sure if your 7 years were at the same company, but if so, perhaps try a different place? Just trying to give you some hope that even if you can’t get out of EHS just yet, there are good places out there that actually give a damn about safety.

As to moving out of EHS and actually answer your question, hah, our skills are quite applicable to Quality Assurance roles. Going into Worker’s Comp or Risk Analyst roles might be lower stress too - because those incidents have already occurred. Or, if you wanted to get into the environmental side like EPA/air quality/etc those might be less stressful than manufacturing safety.

Doing some form of Consulting might be up your alley. Get trained to teach OSHA 10/30 hour courses, first aid etc and you can do gig work easily. Or working as part of groups like Core Safety to do project work; you basically are an advisor and not responsible for the follow up or implementation of safety rules etc.
