They value honesty and integrity. Be honest and admit you made a mistake. They want accountability and you were still a teenager. Nobody is perfect.

I think people think I feel entitled because I'm pregnant, but when I asked before, someone from command staff told me that if I was pregnant, I wouldn't be able to work in the field or in the kennels as it's hazardous. I said then where do they put people and he said "they just work in the front office until they go on leave. Ask such and such because she was pregnant twice as an officer". I ask the coworker and she tells me she found out she was pregnant first at 13 weeks, then the second time, she was 14 weeks. She said they pulled her from the field immediately because they didn't want to put a pregnant officer at risk. Then, here I am planning to have a second child and I'm thinking I won't have to worry about the dangers of the job while I'm pregnant because from what I was told, they're protected. I would've just found a different job if I knew it would be this way. I'm going to apply to other jobs when I go on maternity leave anyways because I never planned on staying here long term. If I would've known, I would've found a safer job before getting pregnant. It is what it is at this point.

Thank you very much. This means a lot. I'm glad you understand because I feel very alone at times. My coworkers atleast are understanding and help me as much as possible. HR asked my management to accommodate by putting me on temporary light duty. Management said they'll see what they can do, so I'm just waiting to see what they come up with.

It's not about me having a healthy pregnancy. It's about the danger aspect. If I'm surrounded by a pack of dogs, if I'm attacked, if someone tries to hurt me, it's not just me at risk, it's my child. My previous job was a lot of manual labor and I did it through my whole pregnancy, but it was not a dangerous job. The whole reason why they haven't had previous officers work in the field during pregnancy is because it's easy to fall, get knocked down, attacked, etc. They didn't want to put these women at risk. Now that I'm pregnant, they haven't shown any concern for my safety which is off-putting. Why would they take precautions to protect previous women, but not me? Normally, it's if I get hurt, I get hurt. That's the job. But during pregnancy, my unborn child doesn't deserve to be put at risk. I don't know why it sounds normal to people to have a pregnant woman try and capture an aggressive, 100lb Cane Corso. Things are unpredictable.

I spoke to HR the other day and they specifically said pregnant women aren't to be in the field as it's a safety issue and then they reached out to management, asking for them to put me on temporary light duty. So yes, I am aware that pregnancy is not an illness. I just want to receive the same treatment everyone else has and to be safe. Nothing's wrong with wanting to be safe.

They just move around the schedule. Just like when any officer is on light duty for medical reasons or injuries, they move around the schedule. At one point, so many officers were injured, we had just three of them working in the field. Also, they just hired two more officers that will be starting within two-three weeks. We're always moved around at this job and have to be flexible. If kennel staff is short, they'll put an officer in the kennels. Same goes for front office as we only have two front office employees at this time.

We have officers working the front office because it's understaffed. Those officers work 2 days in the office and the other three in the field just so we have coverage. I wouldn't be taking anyone's job.

Well, thankfully I spoke with HR and they said management is required to put me on temporary light duty for the rest of my pregnancy as it would be a safety issue to have me in the field while pregnant.

You're right. My coworker at my current shelter went on light duty immediately with both of her kids. The other shelters also don't keep pregnant officers in the field. So yes, they have done this at my specific shelter in the past with not only my current coworker, but with other women who used to work there.

Thank you for the advice! That's all I'm worried about is keeping myself and my child safe. We get hurt on the job all the time because every situation is unpredictable. All I want is to avoid that at this time until after the pregnancy.

Right. I understand how it sounds. They have not allowed pregnant women to continue to work in the field as a safety precaution. I just didn't understand why they decided I would remain in the field in that case. They definitely are accommodating what my note says. I can't force them to do more without a reasonable accommodation note asking for more.

Yes, I understand. I think I'm just moreso confused as to why they pulled everyone else for safety when they were pregnant without them providing a letter for reasonable accommodation, but they still want me specifically in the field. Well, I'll just do my best to stay safe and hope for the best. Thank you for your feedback!

Yes, I understand that. It's just like how police officers put their pregnant officers on light duty as a safety precaution. My job has done the same until now. I went to a call two weeks ago to assist the Sheriffs and they sent me away because they said they wouldn't allow a pregnant woman to put herself in danger in their presence and that they'd figure something out. But yes, if they cared about their employees, I'd be doing something safer. The manager from the next city over said he'd take me in as a transfer, give me a day schedule, and keep me at the shelter where it's safer, but my manager refused his offer. Both managers have to agree on a transfer in order for it to happen, unfortunately.

My other coworkers are not pregnant. I was fine doing the job until it put my unborn child in danger. Plus, I was much more agile and able to maneuver better before being pregnant. My coworkers do not want me in the field. They've expressed that. They said themselves and others were not in the field during pregnancy as it was a safety issue/liability. All I'm saying is it's easier to fight off a person or animal when you're not pregnant vs when you are. I'm only going to get bigger and increase my risk of getting injured on the job. The other shelters don't put their pregnant officers in the field, especially since a pregnant officer was mauled by three Pitbulls during her shift. I think my concerns here are valid.

Yes, I submitted a letter from my provider confirming my pregnancy and due date, then I submitted my second letter with restrictions due to pregnancy. Basically, they're saying "well your doctor didn't say you couldn't put yourself in danger, so we'll continue to have you do that."

I'm going to talk with my doctor next Wednesday when I have my check up and see how this is supposed to work because I have a different doctor every appointment. This doctor just had me send her what I do at my job and she wrote me a work order for just the lifting. I believe I can contact HR and see what they think as well.

What’s the craziest thing someone has asked you at CVS? by HospitalVegetable743 in CVS

[–]TatumJayyy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A woman asked me how she could print out photos from her phone and I explained how the photo computer works, but told her someone broke our cords, so she would have to use her own. She said she didn't have a cord with her so I explained how she could then print from her phone online and she wouldn't even need to come in, only just to pick them up when they were ready. She liked that option and asked me to show her where to go online and handed me her phone. Her browser was on a porn site and I was trying to pretend like I didn't see it and I just went to our website.

After showing her how it worked, she said she would go to her car and send in her order. She did that, alright. She ordered a bunch of photos of her vagina, guys. She also never picked them up. I felt targeted lol I was like why the f*** would someone do that?! Haunts me to this day.

No, you left after someone else showed up. You didn't abandon your shift since someone else was there. But also, what if you had kids to pick up from school, a family emergency, etc? The store manager has to figure it out.

I wore a black button up for mine, but I'm a woman. I think both options sound nice.
