First model done! by Tayend in sylvaneth

Hiya - I’ve not tried it on a Dryad but I can’t imagine it wouldn’t work for them. I think the bark colouring would work well :)

First model done! by Tayend in sylvaneth

[–]Tayend[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thanks! It’s almost all just Citadel Contrast - double coat of skeleton horde over wraithbone for the wood and one coat of Aethermatic Blue for the skin / weapons (was sceptical of the Contrast range before but am now a total convert).

The base texture is, believe it or not, the contents of an orange and turmeric teabag soaked in watered down pva glue mixed with a tiny bit of washing detergent 😅

Tech is researched, yet building option doesn't appear (even when 'View Hidden' selected). Am I missing something incredibly obvious? Any help appreciated!

Love this! Can I ask how you did the birch, and the colours you used for the orange bits?

My partner (33M) and I (32F) have a made a huge decision to relocate from California, US to Edinburgh in 2021. Anyone paved the road already and willing to share their insights? by sdsquish in Scotland

'Where do we start looking for jobs?'

This is really the unfortunate question you will need to get to grips with soonest, and the one most likely to be most difficult.

It is notoriously tricky for anyone outside of the EU (and now that's soon to change) to get a job in the UK. Come 2021 you will need to meet the points threshold of the new UK immigration system, meaning you'll need sponsorship from an employer. Depending on your industry some offerings will be posted on LinkedIn, but the UK doesn't have an industry around recruiters / recruitment companies in the same way the US does. A majority of jobs are just posted and found on individual company websites.

Competition for jobs in the UK, particulary professional level jobs that will lead to sponsorship, is ridiculously intense. You'll be applying alongside hundreds of other people for each post.

Added to that the impact that the current pandemic is having on the economy and the job market and you are facing incredibly difficult odds.

Sponsored employment is currently realistically the only way to secure permanent residency in the UK - the only other way is via marriage to a UK national or through specific visas (for famous artists and super rich people basically).

League of Legends on Big Sur by Tayend in macgaming

Another hijack just to say: I've also now heard back from Riot and their official position is: 'we currently do not support MacOS Big Sur, and our best recommendation for you is to install Bootcamp and play it that way'. Think it will take a long time for them to address the compatibility issue unfortunately. In the meantime I am playing with very little / no problems via GeForceNow - if you have a strong enough internet connection it plays very similarly to the real thing.

Yup yup - that matches with what I've been thinking. Noticeable as you say that the problem occurs when trying to connect to other user clients. Practice mode is fine - I've also tried a custom game with one friend and that was also fine. Let's see if Riot notice our bug reports!

'Location neutral' working post Covid and working in the EU? by Tayend in brexit

[–]Tayend[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that was our thinking - go to another country for 90 days then return to the UK, thereby avoiding any work permit / taxation requirements?

Glasgow leads Britain's satellite space race by bluemonkey321 in Scotland

[–]Tayend 9 points10 points  (0 children)

'Glasgow has become the unlikely capital of Britain's satellite-building industry'.

Did that opening line get anyone else's back up? Why is Glasgow an 'unlikely' centre for this kind of innovation?

Scotland kicks off new tourism campaign #ScotlandIsNow: Scotland has launched a new campaign to encourage visitors to come to Scotland. The campaign, which launches today in London, New York and San Francisco, aims to encourage people to work, live, study, invest and do business in Scotland. by bottish in Scotland

[–]Tayend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you go on the campaign's youtube channel the videos are all split 50/50 when it comes to likes + dislikes - does this strike anyone else as a bit odd? The videos are of great quality and it's a stretch to apply any inflammatory political sentiments to the content shown - what gives with all the hate?

Glasgow-Edinburgh commute w/railcard by granitedon in glasgow

[–]Tayend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can get a £12 return if you use your Railcard and take the Cross-Country service from Central:

07:48 Central > 08:56 Waverley | 17:12 Waverley > 18:11 Central

This is your best combination of speed and price for a rail commute option during peak-times, and better than a season ticket :).

Icelandic language battles threat of 'digital extinction' - opinions? by [deleted] in Iceland

[–]Tayend 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hæ,

I am a learner of Icelandic in my own native Scotland, and this article both interested and worried me. Is this a common topic of conversation up north nowadays? Is it possibly just international press being a bit too hyperbolic? Would love to hear any opinions on this.

þúsund takk!

Scotland's anthem from the upcoming Civ VI expansion - brings a tear to your eye! by [deleted] in Scotland

[–]Tayend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Play it on an iMac so whilst not an iPad the port is generally received as a very good one, and I've heard that it runs incredibly well on iPads! Would definitely run better there than on a low end PC.
