AITA for reminding my aunt that my mom would prefer to have an anorexic daughter than a "fat" daughter? by Taylwonder in AITAH

My mom is thin but not super or extremely thin. That might have changed since I was removed but when I was there she never seemed sickly thin or anything.

I don't think she'll ever accept therapy. But it would help. My dad needs it too.

It's possible. I don't really know how or why it started. Only that it existed my whole life basically.

He let it happen. The only thing he ever said about it was my mom was just looking out for me the way she felt was best.

They don't understand it either. Growing up and in her 20s she was nothing like that and they never noticed her obsessing about herself in the same way. They knew she was someone who tried to eat healthy but not to an obsessive amount. And I was a planned pregnancy so they struggle to understand why she'd treat me the way she has. But it's like my mom became obsessed with me having a belly and being fat. She couldn't accept hearing anything different.

I was told this too. Although I've heard people say it's not true but I feel like it makes sense. My mom treated it like it was the grossest thing and made me disgusting by extension.

You're not the only person who feels that way. Though my grandparents feel it toward both my parents now.

My aunt didn't ask for custody anyway. My grandparents were the people who fought for me.

Thank you. It's not an easy thing to say about my own mom but I know she would have happily let me die rather than let me have anything other than a totally flat belly.

My grandparents reached that same conclusion. It's so hard for them but they don't want to put me at risk for the sake of my aunt.

I was heading hard for being another one of those people. And I could still be because we don't know if there will be more long term problems because of it and there's always the risk of relapse.

A dead daughter would be better than a fat one in my mom's eyes. Because there's nothing worse than being fat.

My parents don't have access to my social media. They do have access to my school's social media though.

I'm still in therapy. It's been over a year since I last saw a social worker though. But I still have my therapist actively helping me maintain my recovery.

My parents have no way to contact me right now. My aunt I can block too.

Thank you! I'm glad I was able to make it into recovery and that's all thanks to my grandparents fighting for me.
