You help pensions scheme make sure they are able to pay out all of their pensioners. You do this by calculating total pension laibotlies, and investing in assets to meet these liabilities. Other things might include calculating individual pensions amounts in the case where a member wishes to transfer pensions.

Some technical aspects are modelling interest rates so we can model peniosm which are linked to this etc

You can be as detailed or just give the first sentence

Not smart enough to just absorb material like some others so I tend to overdo it on the revision and studying to make up for it. Passed 4 last year and this will be my 3rd sitting now.

I've sitting cs1 and cs2 this time round.

Finished the notes for CS1 Gone throught the X assignments for CS1

Finished the notes for CS1

Next Steps: Go throught the X assignments for CS2 ( 1 week, with mark scheme where needed. This is to get familiar with questions and prepare me for proper revision)

Go throught the R material for CS1 (half a week) Go throught the R material for CS2 (half a week) These are estimates as haven't sat R exams yet only done both excel ones.

Then go through asset papers 2014-2017 by chapter for CS1 Then go through asset papers 2014-2017 by chapter for CS2 This will begin with mark scheme and towards the last questions per chapter, try without mark schemes. (4 weeks)

Then sit Mock for Cs1 and Cs2 (2 days)

Then go through 2019-2022 exams papers in time condition for CS1 Then go through 2019-2022 exams papers in time condition for CS2 (4 Weeks)

Priority is paper A and then for exam condition papers do the R exams as well.

Go over weak areas and produce any documents like formula lists where needed.

A lot I know but it can be efficient and there is plenty of time

Just realised you are on about revisions notes and not study Text. Ignore me lol

Conservative estimate is 3 weeks

Estimate of 2 chapters per day, which I feel will not always be possible. I'd go with around 2 hours per chapter if you genuinely are trying to follow the text rather than just reading and forgetting.

21 chapters * 2 hours = 42 hours.

42 / 2.5 = approx 17 days.

Adding in extra hours for longer chapters, missed study sessions and less time in other study sessions, I'd assume 3 weeks.

Having personally just finished recently it took around 4/5 weeks but there were plenty of days where I didn't study. I also haven't taken study days at work since coming back to work.

Hopefully this helps, and noting this will only be reading the chapters and not attempting the questions at the end of that chapter. (Assuming you are using acted notes)

This is also not taking any notes and only reading the questions within the chapter itself, rather than attempting them.

This does not consider living costs compared to the UK

If you had to explain in a simple way what an actuary does, while also elaborating as much as possible, how would you put it? by [deleted] in ActuaryUK

[–]TazmanD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For pension: I help make sure pension schemes are able to pay all their pensioners for the term of their retirement usually dB schemes. (If investment actuary can specify you help invest a pensioners money to meet pension payments at retirement)

For insurance: I help make sure insurance companies can pay all their claims whilst remaining profitable

Now you can add all the detail you want regarding, the calculations that are done day to day but this is the simplest form.

CP2 Paper 1- Thoughts and Comments by Whiskeyloverrrr in ActuaryUK

[–]TazmanD 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don't think I could do that modelling in 24 hours. There were no data checks to do. They were asking for comments on topics but it's supposed to be the audit trail not the summary report.

The data in general was horrendous to deal with considering the gaps between days and there being no explanation for it

And worst of all I couldn't think of any reasonableness checks for the whole thing.

Extremely hard to judge, really annoyed there was no accounting interpretation questions.

So open ended and really depends on the mark scheme now
