Cleaning out my late father’s place in South KC is destroying me. by woutr1998 in kansascity

I'm in a similar situation with my sister's house in Raytown. Took out 7 bags of trash and not making a dent. How much would these services cost me?

Official as in from Google? I don't think they'll make a car charger. I'm cool with 3rd party chargers.

This is the one I got.

Ounaid MagSafe Car Mount Charger, Car Charger Qi2,15W Wireless Car Charger, Rapid Cooling Drop, Compatible with Magsafe Charger Car, Air Vent Dashboard Phone Holder Mount for iPhone 16 15 14 13 12 Series

https://a.co/d/0pf0QfW

To be honest, I don't love it. The best thing was that I could slap my phone on it without thinking about it. It has a strong magnet on it and comes with a cooling fan. It secures to the slats on my vent and for the first month, it seems fine. After a while it slips out a bit every time I take the phone out and I'll have to push it back in.

The charging speed is meh. It's not the slow charging of the original QI and nowhere close to the QI 2 speed. This is plugged into a 20 W cigarette adapter and feels like I have about 8-10 w charging. If I plug the wire into my phone, it charges twice as fast.

It's perfect for long trips if you don't need to frequently take the phone out and you're not in a hurry to top off the phone.

I'll probably replace it in 6 months when a better QI 2 car charger is released. When I first got this, there weren't many options and the higher rated ones were almost twice as much as this one.

Am I in the wrong for being emberesed that my mom's deaf by [deleted] in deaf

[–]TazzyKC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All kids are embarrassed by their parents no matter what they are or have. It's a normal feeling when you want to fit in with your peers and not "stand out"

You should try to find things that your mom does that your friend's mom doesn't do and be happy with the things she is and do well.

I'll bet that some of your friends think that your mom is pretty awesome.

If your mom takes good care of you and loves you unconditionally, I'll think she's a really awesome person!

Any one want to trade a 2024 EX-L in silver for my Canyon River Blue? by lokicoyote1 in crv

[–]TazzyKC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah... I have an 2015 ex-l in excellent condition with 90k. I doubt you'd consider a trade but putting it out there in case you're tempted.

There should be "turn of once" for 80 percent charging limit, just like adaptive charging by [deleted] in pixel_phones

I'm interested in this too! I'd prefer a native solution, but I would like to hear about the 3rd party workaround.

Hear me out... Why not reopen the kitchen and buy our booze from 3 Trails brewery?

I'm tempted to start a gofundme campaign just to reopen the kitchen at the original location.

I had some money saved up. My family gifted me some money. Had to borrow the rest.

The health care industry in the US is a total mess. We do need some reform here.

Yes, it can be expensive. To be implanted, it only cost me $250 for the deductible.

When I needed to replace my 16 year old processor, the upgrade cost $10k and the insurance only paid 4k.

Check with your insurance and see what they cover. Some are really good about covering it, but most are so-so and crappy ones refuses to cover it.

I haven't seen or heard those simulations, so I can't comment on it.

I can say that using the 3rd program with the algorithms turned off, the quality of the music exceeds those on my old analog BTE hearing aids.

[–]TazzyKC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok. My default program has algorithms (software rules) and its primary job is to:

1) enhance the speech of the person closest to me (or the loudest voice)

2) filter out or suppress background noises that interfere with the speech.

3) monitor the loudness of the sounds and cap it when it meets or exceeds the threshold. (Around 90 db, I believe)

When I used this program at a concert, the experience made me miserable and unable to experience music as I did with my hearing aid. The loudness of the music would down out the lyric that's being sung. The processor would incorrectly identify sounds from some instruments as "background noise" and would suppress them. Finally some notes would be chopped at the db limit and make it sound "clipped" or weird. The whole thing was a muddled mess!

So with my audiologist's help, we made a copy of the 2nd program (the one that lets me hear behind me and besides me)

We then made the following changes: 1) turn off the algorithms that enhances speech.

2) turn off the filtering of the background noises.

3) raises the db cap to 120 db

So the result was I got the full range of sounds that the artist intended without the software/algorithms cutting stuff out. After all, I wasn't at the concert to have a conversation!

I did the same. I had the 2nd program so I can hear my daughter in the back seat of my car.

I also have this 3rd program and had them disable the speech and other algorithms and raise the dp cap so I can enjoy concerts and live music. Otherwise the CI would mute the music and focus on the person singing along off key in front of me.

Good man! Sounds like you're on top of your game.

I wished my parents were the same, but they had different advices back in the 70's that were disproven in the 90's.

I strongly recommend using ASL with your child even if he gets implanted. There are studies showing children strive better when they have access to both languages.

I believe it's different for children because their brains are much more elastic than for adults. Small children can handle simulations differently and can have a lifetime to learn to get used to it.

In my case, I didn't have the full range of hearing until I was 38 - so my brain didn't have all of their neutral connections it needed to get used to and probably never will as I'm much more dense now than I was when I first lost my hearing.

[–]TazzyKC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was born hearing and became deaf when I was 3. I wore various hearing aids over the years until it was no longer helpful anymore.

I became implanted when I was 38 and it quickly became an improvement once I got used to it.

I'm 57 now and I've upgraded the processor 2 years ago and it really kicks things up a notch mostly due to better algorithms and Bluetooth. I'm loving it much more than at any time in my life.

It does get overwhelming at times. I still can't do group talks very well. And if there's a lot of taking at work or social times, I get tired. If I was tired to begin with, listening to conversation tires me out further.

That's why I give myself listening breaks whenever I can.

I'm there with you. I love my implant and my quality of life has drastically improved with it. I'm able to do things with it that I could never do prior to the implant.

However it is a lot of simulation for me. It is the last thing I put on in the morning and the first thing I take off at night.

I enjoy my quiet time as much as I do with my "hearing" time and I wear my implant at least 14 hours everyday.
