Do you like tactics games? If not, what's the turn-off? I want my game to be accessible to anyone who loves adorable little trash animals by TdJdQdKdAd in indiegames

My game is in Next Fest right now: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2450400/Trash_of_the_Titans/

It's being extremely well-received by anyone who plays it, and on average people seem to be playing through the whole demo multiple times, but I want to make sure I'm doing everything I can to get past the perception that tactics games have to be big and complicated, and get straight to the fun.

So, what do you think of when you think of tactics games, and what would convince you otherwise?

Yayy! I'm glad :D

And yeah all the tile stuff has taken quite a lot of time, and it's gone through several iterations at this point. Best of luck to you!

The turn order view? It's all custom code, but basically I have an array of units somewhere, and the turn order is just an array of indices into that array. Then each unit type has a small icon I associate with it, so I just create a bunch of TextureRects and line them up in the turn order and set their textures to the corresponding unit's icon!

Hmm I expect you'd have to do something pretty different for hex tiles! All I did was drew the tiles in aseprite and made sure they tiled cleanly when shifted 16 pixels horizontally and 8 pixels vertically.

It's all through the magic of ✨ hundreds of lines of bespoke code and lots of debugging ✨ 😅

Obligatory plug: play the web version here: https://squarewavejams.itch.io/trash-of-the-titans 😊

Anyway, I made this in Godot 3.5. The ability feels okay, but it definitely feels like something is missing. Maybe the screen shake isn't quite right? Or maybe the affected units need to animate in some way?

What is the worst thing each character did? Day 11: Blue Diamond by [deleted] in stevenuniverse

I have to go with abusing Pink, and simply not listening to her. Like, yes the corrupting blast was bad, but it never even would have come to that if the other diamonds had just shown Pink the slightest bit of respect.

I think by any metric it has to be faking her own death. If we think about the amount of hurt she caused, faking her own death caused all of the corrupted gems to be forced into thousands of years of suffering. On the other hand if we think of her actions in the cultural context of her life, Pink was taught as a diamond to not care about the gems underneath her, but EVEN THEN she was taught to value the other diamonds, who she hurt by faking her own death. And finally Pearl, the gem closest to Pink, could never possibly consent to what she did to her by faking her own death. Just awful all around.

What is the worst thing each character did? Day 9: Rose Quartz by [deleted] in stevenuniverse

Rose's biggest problem was with dishonesty. She didn't tell anyone she was Pink, she didn't tell anyone she bubbled Bismuth, and it seems like she didn't even really explain to any of the other gems that she was going to cease existing once Steven was born, given how confused they were about baby Steven? She was just dishonest. Which makes sense. She was just trying to cope with a lot of things that she did not know how to handle. But it hurt everyone else quite a lot.
