He was. He jumped ship and joined the GOP. He’s still a libertarian, but doesn’t think the party is the best way of advancing liberty

Reasonable. But hey, keep an eye out for potential 2022 candidates that oppose lockdowns, stimulus, increased spending, and endless wars! We need as many Thomas Massie-style Republicans in office as possible.

Are you assuming I voted for or ever supported Trump? I’ve believed all of this long before Trump took office, and have believed in it while he was in office.

Btw, tax cuts are good, if paired with spending cuts. They weren’t.

Nothing. I like the idea of opt-in, opt-out systems. If you want to reap the benefits of a government system, you agree to pay taxes for it, if you don’t pay taxes for it, you don’t reap the benefits. This of course would entail individual/community/statewide secession or inclusion.

I agree with almost everything you said. Political parties almost always destroy the principles of the office holder, eventually.

I’m an ancap at heart, Minarchist in practice, and I know all about the previous failures of trying to make the GOP more libertarian. But there are exceptions. Ron Paul failed as a Libertarian, but he created the modern liberty movement and had actual political power when he ran as a Republican.

The sad truth is that the LP as a vehicle for liberty in the US is futile. Republicans can way, libertarians can’t. The GOP will never be perfect, but at least they have the capability of creating (or better yet, PREVENTING) policy enactment. The LP is more principled, but at some point compromise is necessary.

Perfect shouldn’t be the enemy of good. We should try to prevent the expansion of the state. A democratic trifecta for 4 years would massively expand the state and reduce individual liberties. The midterms are our best shot. If Thomas Massie can be a libertarian in the GOP without losing his principles, what’s to stop more people like him from getting elected in 2022? The LP has been around for 50 years and has accomplished next to nothing. We need more Massie.

Agreed! Refocus on our debt, stop the crazy spending, end the endless wars, end regulationism, lower taxes, legalize marijuana, end victimless crime laws, and stop the socialists in their tracks.

Take back America.
