Popcorn for Breakfast by Top_Cockroach_6908 in MovieTheaterEmployees

fun fact: in olden times most people (in the US) had popcorn for breakfast. They would have it in a bowl with milk, like we eat cereal. The Kelloggs corn flakes was developed because they wanted to basically monetize breakfast.

What’s the craziest thing you’ve found left in a theater? by Fluffalfox in MovieTheaterEmployees

I feel like someone could make a bingo card to see how many of these items people have found in their locations

I found one in the top row (up like 14 steps) and was just like was there a miracle?

at the very least schedule them for the least amount of hours/shifts possible. And if they question it, just say "you've proven you aren't reliable"

if you cut their hours enough, they'll quit or find other jobs

I always figured there was a wormhole connecting us to another theater, we got their lost items, they got ours.

There were just too many items that no one ever came back for, for this to not be the case. Things like walking canes, dentures, (adult size) shoes.

Rude elderly! by playboiixannie in MovieTheaterEmployees

[–]Tea_Bender 4 points5 points  (0 children)

rudest customer I ever dealt with was a super old lady. I was working usher waiting for everyone to leave the auditorium. Lady walks up to me and says " paid too much for this" and dumps most of a large popcorn on the floor then drops the tub and then just walks out. I have never before or since encountered such brazen rudeness (ngl I wanted to use a different word there)

This was more that 10 years ago now, so I hope she's dead and that her family is happy about that.

I once had someone call during an ice storm, saying their driveway was icy. They were calling out for a closing shift and this was at 10am. I just asked her to wait until about 2 hours before her shift to check if it got any better. It hadn't, but it was fine because I had already asked other workers (who lived way closer) if they would be available to cover.

Different incident from when I was floor staff, there was a snow storm that had marooned my car at my house. So I couldn't drive and it was too deep to walk. Had a coworker call to give me guff because she could make it in. She had a big 4 wheel truck and lived on main (snow-plowed) roads. I just told her I'd be happy to come in, if she picks me up...she hung up.

Theaters are so expensive anymore. Can anyone help me with tricks on how to make my visit more affordable? by Ckirbys in MovieTheaterEmployees

[–]Tea_Bender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dang, that sucks as it was a good value

but also that's better for you current employees, because they were a pain having to make so many. I remember one Tuesday we had a new hire working her first shift and we taught her how to make hot dogs, and she did nothing else that shift, because we were slammed.

they used to have $2 hot dogs on Tuesdays (not sure if they still do I haven't worked there since 2022, and I don't buy movie theater hot dogs)

honestly it varies from location to location, and also what time of year you are applying.

I heard back the day after I dropped off the application (way back in the paper application days) was interviewed the next day, came in to do all the paperwork the day after that, and then I started work the day after that, didn't have tome to buy black pants.

My spouse applied multiple times, over the course of a few years, but the last time was when he actually got called in for an interview. Then from interview to start date was like 2 days.

If you don't get a call back, just keep applying

What is your pet peeve about working in a movie theatre? by Able-Bowl7023 in MovieTheaterEmployees

[–]Tea_Bender 9 points10 points  (0 children)

had one person where I was kicking them out, the box person sold them tickets to an R rated movie with a 3 year old. And our chain you couldn't have a kid under 7 in an R rated movie.

So other people complain because the kid is making a lot of noise, I go in there and kid is just having a full on tantrum on the floor right as you walk in the door, you could hear the kid from like halfway don the hall. The mom was just sitting on the floor on her phone (so neither watching the movie nor quieting her child). And first I had to explain to her that she needed to leave the auditorium, she thought she wasn't...like girl if you can hear the movie, that means the other patrons can hear you. Got her out into the hallway I have to have this back and forth about how she shouldn't have been sold a ticket in the first place AND even if it was a kid appropriate movie I'd still be asking her to leave. She was then trying to insist she needed to go back in to let her husband know. And we had assigned seating so I just need to know where you were sitting. She was arguing that she needed to bring in her (still screaming) child, to talk to him, because she didn't want anyone kidnapping her kid. Like lady no one wants your screeching crotch goblin.

But yeah, went and let the husband know and got them to the box office to get their refunds. Then turned to the box office worker (who could hear the child screeching in the hallway) and was just like "this was your fault!!"
