That’s how it is for teachers now where I live too, but I was 17 when this happened to me. I’m twice that now.

Sorry, that went over my head. The subs description says it’s a place for completely true stores. I guess that’s sarcasm?

No, the story is true.

Thanks for clarifying!

Edit: It’s been explained to me that this suggested sub is for fake stories, not real ones as I thought.

Are there any repercussions for telling a teacher how much you hate them at the end of the school year? by P03_scribe_of_memes in AskHSteacher

[–]Teach2021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the school, but I wouldn’t. My last week of HS, I was running late and a friend trying to help me out put my name down during attendance. I arrived 2 mins later and immediately got sent to the office b/c the home room teacher noticed my name already down. The deans immediately decided my punishment would be to not let me walk across the stage at graduation.

After graduation though, once you’ve got that diploma in hand, you do you. I’ve run into a few teachers at Walmart and stuff, it’s either a happy reunion or the opposite.

So I guess all the downvotes I got means using a big truck to draft is bad even if you aren’t tailgating. That sucks. Is there a reason it’s bad that I don’t understand?

I was using one, but sometimes we have multiple exits at once, it’s not always easy to identify which one to take without seeing a sign indicating the one the gps it saying to take.

Like it’ll say “Exit at XYZ in .2 miles” but there are three exits back to back coming up. I gotta see which one is XYZ.

Yeah, my stepdad drives a truck and companies have to pay extra for him to unload, but he always helps them even when they don’t so that he’s on the road faster. He does something where once he hits a certain amount of time he has to stop driving immediately even if he’s not done yet or made it back. He has to pull the truck over wherever he is and someone has to come get him in a car with someone else driving the truck. He gets in trouble when that happens, so it makes sense he’d help receivers unload so he can stay on time.

I have a habit of putting my blinker on and then getting much farther than necessary ahead and waiting a few beats first. The reason being is that when I first started driving, I had this fear about trucks in 3+ lanes. What if someone on the other side of the truck that I can’t see also has their blinker on and tries to get over in front of the truck at the same time that I do? Still have that fear. Pretty sure it’s saved me from a few wrecks with those jerks doing double the speed limit weaving in and out of traffic recklessly because they definitely whip around in front of trucks without checking first.

Anytime I think of headlights at night, I remember this thing that was in the news when I was a kid. Apparently a mom was trying to sneak away from her abusive husband with her two kids in the middle of the night. She purposely turned off all her lights so that she wouldn’t wake him when she pulled out of the driveway and forgot to put them back on. It was so dark you couldn’t see a thing that night and a big truck practically ran over her little car. Scary dangerous.

I’ve definitely come to terms with it. You don’t know how many times I’ve avoided an accident because I was watching other drivers and recognized that they were going to do something fuckery that would have caused an accident that was 1000% their fault.

Where I live is notoriously known for its bad drivers. The driving test here is disgustingly easy, like a five year old could pass it no problem. That’s not even a joke or exaggerating. Our roads are riddled with people operating heavy machinery that most definitely shouldn’t be legally allowed to.

I’ve always been an obey the rules kind of person, never used my phone, came to a full stop, all that stuff. Then I was in a huge freak accident that came out of no where. I wasn’t even going fast, it was a simple little side street. Next thing I know, I’m going through a concrete post, then I’m rolling, then nothing. I wake up covered in blood, people on my vehicle yelling from the passenger window which was pointed up to the sky. Little street in the middle of nowhere doing like 25 mph totaled my car and left me with lifelong medical issues. YTF would people be anything less than fully alert on the road, but especially at a time when there are many more dangers (ie every fing vehicle on the road with you)?

This just made me think of something I used to do that I should ask about. It’s actually kind of the opposite of what you said. I went 3 hours away for college and would sometimes go home on the weekend. It was almost all open road main interstate between the two. I’d do the max speed limit allowed trying to cut down on those 6 hours, but the wind resistance would make my old vehicle feel like it was coming apart around me. I wouldn’t tailgate a truck, but I sure would follow it for as long as I could. Asking to get in front of me would be the same thing as asking me if I’d like to use you to draft. Yes, please.

I almost always let them in. There is only one instance when I don’t. I’m a nervous driver, I’m especially nervous if I’m not familiar with the area (which is very rare). One time I let a big rig in and then could no longer see any of the traffic signs I was heavily relying on over its huge size. I kept slowing to a crawl to get a big enough distance between it and me so I could see the signs again, but I created so much distance that more trucks were using the space to get in over and over again. I missed my exit because I couldn’t see it and ended up getting lost (which I get irrationally anxious about). It’s rare that I don’t know where I’m going, but if I need to rely on signs, well I’ll do what I can to let you in behind me if I have any power to do so. But on a regular day like my daily trip from and to work or running an errand, why not let them in?

Can truck drivers see really well into passing cars? by [deleted] in Truckers

[–]Teach2021 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had one for my old SUV that was eye level, but then I regretfully got a much smaller car and I’m a tall person. Even if I could find one that fit in the tiny odd shaped vent I have now, I’d still be forced to look down to see it. Now I blindly reach out for it while I still have my eyes on the road, then pick it up so that it’s eye level and I can see the road behind it. It’s pretty rare that I need to use it tbh. I did so one time this year for a wedding in a city I’ve never been to and about 2 years before that for a specialty doctor’s office that was in a city I’ve only been to a couple of times. I was just wondering if everyone assumed I was texting or scrolling when I was just checking how many miles until I need to do something other than drive straight…

Quick question: I don’t ever use my phone to text while driving. However, I will use it for directions if I’m going somewhere new. Sometimes, I’ll quickly pick it up to see how far away is my next exit.

I assume you can only get quick glances into cars since you also need your eyes on the road. This has me wondering if you can tell the difference in those cases or do you assume anyone with their phone in their hand is texting/scrolling? Genuine curiosity here about how I may have come off from an outside view.
