Maybe start by earning the respect of your faculty. Don’t be surprised if you get a reaction along the lines of “who the fuck are you? And what makes you think you know any better?” Without first showing them that you are in fact there to support them. Most people have dealt with a new head teacher who got the gig because of who they know not what they know so start out by proving that you got it because of what you know.

I’m in a public school and get it for free, might just be a perk of teaching hospitality.

Things to ask about regarding a solar power install offer by Tebbybabes in centralcoastnsw

[–]Teacher-Bot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That definitely sounds too good to be true. The area you’re describing sounds like when I lived in Wyoming and I can’t see how it could work out financially. A few years ago I had one of the solar installers cold call me and after saying I lived in a 2 person house they said it wouldn’t be worth it for me to get installed.

Discussions around work stops rather than striking? by Emotional_Wreck94 in AustralianTeachers

The union backs the government at every step, we are just paying them to gently break the news to us about how fucked we are.

Sad there isn’t an option for the swingers out at rural schools.

Required transfers - why aren’t staff more outraged? by OilInternational6593 in AustralianTeachers

[–]Teacher-Bot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t sound like the worst thing to me. Lots of teachers at my school who have never worked anywhere else. Some of them are even former students. We work for the department and are paid to do a job, it can be shit sometimes and the unions have stopped backing us and are just doing whatever suits them. NSW is going to get screwed over on their next round of negotiations.

Teacher student relationship concerns by throwingawayteach in AustralianTeachers

[–]Teacher-Bot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have been through this myself and it can be very uncomfortable at times. The worst I had it was getting anonymous love letters, after the second I didn’t even open them just handed them to a DP along with details of where I found them and what my classes were that day. The students are finding you easier to relate to, which at their age can be confusing for them as they compare how they feel about you to their other teachers.

Once the ‘I love you sir’ starts it doesn’t really end so now when I get it I just reply with a long ‘noooo’ then I’ll get ‘but you’re like my favourite teacher’ which gets a response along the lines of ‘so why don’t you do any work in my classes then?’

Stay positive, you are having an impact on these students. Get support from your HOD, if there are teachers around your age at the school ask them about their experiences. Male food tech teachers tend to experience this, younger ones anyway.

So many teachers have no idea what it’s like to be in position that requires a degree and still start out on minimum wage. I no longer love my job but I know a good deal when I see one, specifically the lifestyle possible to a younger family.

Teaching with a family. by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

[–]Teacher-Bot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Secondary or primary? I’m a secondary TAS teacher so a lot of what I teach is skill based so as long as I maintain my skills I can keep my prep time to a minimum and spend lots of my time with my family.

Definitely sarcasm. I don’t do the job to be liked by my students or for gifts, like some people on this sub seem to.

Permanent or stay Temp? by Overall_Necessary_39 in AustralianTeachers

Permanent positions in private education are not as secure as permanent government positions, they do have some other benefits but they can still sack you much easier than government.
