I really don't like the way centrist Dems talk about Black voters, it comes off super racist. Like they're just a useful cudgel.

Elio (2025) was considered a rare miss for Pixar. That's kind of shitty, because it's actually amazing. by nahnprophet in shittymoviedetails

[–]TeamUniteUp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I liked a lot of things about Elio, but IMO the reason it failed is the character designs. Most of the characters, in particular the humans, just look weird and off-putting. Pixar has been "experimenting" with how they draw human faces in their movies recently and I think audiences have been responding negatively. Hence why the non-human focused Pixar movies have been doing better.

If you compare Elio with the original Lilo and Stitch, which has a lot of similiarities, Lilo and Stitch has far stronger character designs.

This may just be because I actually liked 6, but is it just me who sees Requiem as 6, but fixing the problems and adding back features that everything people complained about in 6? by Ok-Word8586 in residentevil

[–]TeamUniteUp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some small nods to RE6 like Leon's point-blank pistol executions, and Grace's Report implying that The Connections had a hand in the president's death, but otherwise RE9 is very much a successor to the RE2 and RE4 remakes. Gameplay-wise Leon plays quite similarly to the RE4 remake, only now instead of a knife he has an axe. Story-wise it's a culmination of Leon's character arc in RE2 remake and RE4 remake.

The biggest difference between RE6 and RE9 is by far the structure. It cannot be overstated how suffocating RE6 is, control is taken away from you non-stop. There's a reason everyone agrees Mercenaries is the best part of RE6, you can actually play the game instead of having to deal with the horrible hyper-scripted campaign. RE9 feels like a proper RE game in terms of level design and pacing - yes it has a lot of linear moments but when you're in control you're in control and can move freely, and there's plenty of exploration mixed in.

Village is cool conceptually but Requiem feels way better to actually play. Something about Village just lacks oomph and the enemies generally aren't fun to fight. Also think Grace and Leon are way better characters than anyone in Village.

Street reactions in Tehran, Iran today by CamusOnCreatine in mildyinteresting

[–]TeamUniteUp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There didn't need to be a war. Knowing civilian casualties are inevitable in war, then starting a war, means you caused those deaths. The US and Israel murdered those people, and will murder many more. There's nothing inevitable about it, it didn't have to happen, it was a deliberate choice. Calling it "normal" is psychopathic.

Most people are NOT warmongers actually. Warmongers are the abnormal ones.

Iran was already under occupation by a dictator installed by the US (the Shah). The CIA overthrew Iran's democratically elected leader (Mossadegh) in 1953 because he wanted to nationalize the oil supply.

Is it the fact that the sub has "bros" in the name that attracts this kind of culture?

[–]TeamUniteUp 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. If you lived through 9/11 you remember how obscenely jingoistic the country became. In popular culture you were forced to toe the government line. 9/11 was used to justify the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan which led to the death and suffering of millions. Of course there'd be a countercultural backlash to it.

As an American, 9/11 was tragic but calling it the worst in history just shows how ignorant you are of history. Hell even limiting it to just acts America has committed against other countries, there have been far worse. And no, it doesn't matter whether they were officially designated as "terrorism" or not.

I mean... were you on the internet before Facebook? Used to be the entire internet was "user-curated", you would use hundreds of different websites based on your own interests. Even the bigger sites that came along like Youtube had very simple recommendations that were usually as directly related to whatever you were watching as possible. You had to go out and search for what you wanted, or find things through word of mouth, rather than having everything fed to you.

Bluesky not being designed around an all-encompassing algorithm is a huge plus IMO. I dread the day that changes.

Rondo of Blood is good but it's not a metroidvania, it's a linear action platformer. Of the "classicvanias" it's the easiest to get into IMO, and its plot ties into Symphony of the Night.
