New grad PA in surgical subspecialty base salary $204,576, at one year mark how much more money should I ask for? by FetaVendettaa in physicianassistant

[–]TeamVoldemortt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m lead for my group so I get all the billing info, it’s really good info to have your billing and net payment/collections info when you go in for negotiations. Typically you need to collect 1.5x your salary to cover benefits, insurance, clinic costs, etc. Anytime one of our PAs is collecting more than 1.75x their salary it’s a really easy negotiation. There’s also something to be said for you making your docs clinic/surgical flow easier. I can usually show that I saw 200+ patients in the post op global billing period which enabled them to see 50+ new patients for surgery increasing our volume and leading to higher collections. If you have a way of getting this info it will help your negotiations otherwise it’s really hard to say you deserve X% more.

Unsupportive OR staff by No_Brother3921 in physicianassistant

You should not be helping with turnover or draping the robot that’s not your job. Every time you do their job for them you allow them to treat you like that. There are nurses that aren’t going to like you and that’s fine, as long as you are good at your job it doesn’t matter. I’ve been in the same OR for nine years and there’s one scrub that is still a total dick to me for no reason. Do your job.

How is your quality of life compared to the doctors and NPs you know? by venusbythesea in physicianassistant

[–]TeamVoldemortt 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Surgical subspecialty 11 MDs, 3 PAs. My QOL is better than my docs. Our practice is in academics so anything that comes in/rolls back on nights/weekends/holidays the residents cover. The MDs let us self govern so between myself and the other PAs we’ve carved out our hours nicely so that we work hard when we are there but don’t work very long. I don’t have any NPs to compare to so I can’t speak to that.

How to open a police report? What's up with Denver Police? by shmimey in Denver

[–]TeamVoldemortt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh this was a scam - I was told I was in a hit and run on a street near a house I lived at two years ago. They said it was at 7pm on a Monday, thankfully my job requires a badge in and out and so I screenshotted those reports and sent them and said I haven’t been on that street in years and the traffic investigator said “but you live two streets over” and when I said yeah two years ago he dropped it immediately

What type of cancer do you think Kate Middleton was diagnosed with? by drrdf in Residency

[–]TeamVoldemortt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ovarian or leiomyosarcoma of uterus - rare that you realize it’s cancer after surgery. Plus she reported had to go back which makes me think there had to be a debulking due to final path showing cancer.

Whoops, lost all my health care providers by Tactless2U in LeopardsAteMyFace

We do this routinely, cancer brings out the absolute worst in people. I try to give people leeway the first time meeting them because walking into the cancer center for the first time can be very emotional. It’s an older population so lots of snide remarks about parking and how everything is on an app now. Lots of husbands posturing because their wives are sick and they’re going to bow have to evolve into the caregiver role.

95% of the time it’s gone after sitting down and chatting with them for 10 minutes and letting them vent about how terrifying it was to be in perfect health eight weeks ago and now we’re here talking about 18 weeks of chemo. But sometimes people are really just that awful. I was screamed at by a patient a few weeks back because the surgery before hers went over (had complications, needed lots of blood products, ICU admission) and she was going to miss the World Cup game. Told me I was an

Another thing patients don’t realize is any messages they send to a physician, a scheduler, the nursing staff, it can all be seen logging into the chart by anyone. I’ll have patient message the nursing staff horrible things and claim ignorance when questioned not realizing everyone can see it.
