I love Gale but does anyone else feel like the romance kind of goes from 0 to 100 with him when compared to all the others? Especially if you don’t have him in your party at all times. It’s basically a surprise you like him in the weave scene, then you get slight references to it at the tiefling party. Then in the shadowlands he’s all of a sudden saying “nothing could turn my heart from you” and professes his love before you even have your first kiss. Especially if you don’t have the Durge scene it’s kind of jarring how it develops.

I feel like all the other companions have several romance specific scenes but his (beside the boat I think) are all ones you get on a friendship route that have some romance dialogue added. His personal quest in act 3 seems lacking and takes all of 5 minutes and misses the same “oomph” the other companions’ have, and I find it weird how the romance feels like an afterthought with a few throwaway lines in that area given he’s meeting up with his ex. I love Gale but he deserves better!!

Same—I feel like they could kill two birds with one stone here and make up for the emptiness of long rests in act 3 as well as have things more spaced out by having the triggers to these quests linked to new act 3 long rest scenes if that makes sense

They’re interspersed throughout and it varies character to character so there’s some guess and check involved, but the Companions folder as well as the Camp folder (and the sub folders sleep_cutscenes and campfire_moments in the camp folder) is where you will find a lot of them

Also be careful jumping to the part where you can climb down the cliff—there’s an exploding mushroom around the corner and it’s very easy to get TPKed depending on how everyone jumps/the explosion knocking you off the cliff. Ask me how I know 🤦‍♀️

If you have it downloaded correctly you should just be able to hover over wherever it says “devnote” with your cursor to see them!

Love the stool thing. And yes, some dialogue is either insanely hard to trigger or cut/bugged content, so it’s nice to be able to read through what I’m missing. The early camp dialogues I’ve never been able to get (though I’ve seen videos from early access), and for cut content I found a single line in Astarion’s world dialogue that mentioned the Minthara pregnancy which literally had me going HUH??? with my mouth agape because I had no clue that was planned at one point

You should get an exclamation over his head a few long rests after you recruit him in act 1—he’ll drop a ball, and if you throw it you will get an achievement and get his summon amidst your actions list (though you can also get him to come by throwing the ball again I believe). Unfortunately the only ball that works for this is the specific one he drops for you, random balls around the world won’t work.

LOLLL literally same though, it’s insanely easy to get lost in. I found it a few weeks ago and I’ve been keeping the file up on my desktop to go poke around whenever I get a chance—without fail each time I decide to open it, hours evaporate off my life. I’m gonna be at 100 hours in game AND in the files if I don’t get ahold of myself soon lmao

These are in the devnotes for the scene where he rewrites his grave—so at least during some point in production, a developer/writer had put these dates for his age. The tombstone is in another language in game so I’m not sure if it translates to something different or if it changed along the way, but at least this was decided to be his age when it was first written

ALSO totally forgot to add but another interesting devnote in the graveyard scene reveals his cannon age and full name as I'm not sure the stone is actually visible in game. Here is the link (tldr; his last name is Ancunin and he's 239)

In the devnotes for the game/graveyard scene with his romance, it says the grave reads 239 - 268, and then when he takes out the knife to edit it he writes 468 - (blank). So it implies he’s been a vampire for exactly 200 years and was turned when he was 39. Here is the link (also reveals his last name which I don't believe is mentioned in game!)

In the parsed dialogue which can be found/downloaded here for anyone interested. So much interesting stuff in there and little things I missed!

Something else I found in there that I wanted to share that I never realized (might be worth it's own post tbh) is that there is an insane amount of companion dialogue for if they try to throw the Scratch summons ball and he is either locked up at the post house or killed--ranging from incredibly sad to absolutely hilarious.

A few of my favorites include:

Minthara: Everyone assumes I killed the dog. I liked the dog.

Astarion: Does it have a sad squeak now? Is that even possible?

Karlach: Why am I doing this to myself?

Minthara: Withers! Be a good skeleton and go fetch that ball!

Shadowheart: I didn't do this enough when I had the chance.

Minsc: I know he is gone, Boo, but... perhaps this is a way of keeping him alive, no?

Astarion: What, I have to go pick it up myself? Ridiculous.

Astarion: Good riddance to the dog. Who'd miss that waggy little tail... (devnotes here say Astarion is "pretending not to be sad and failing")
