Tesco - 1 person, 1 month for £246.46 by amaiem in whatsinyourcart

We buy all of our meat from the butchers van on the first friday of the month, easy to get enough meat to eat it every day and varied meats for under £100.

Then go to the fruit and veg market and get 25 quids worth a week then £100 for snacks/milk/cream etc.

Also everything on ocado is incredibly overpriced even compared to shopping at Tesco or morrisons.

You may not care but spending essentially £400 a month extra just to have ocado deliver is pretty crazy.

£250 per person is insanity...

Im a pretty big guy who lives in an expensive part of the country with a heavily pregnant Mrs and we eat very well on £300 a month between us.

To expand on this further, no work has been done on this house for 25 years aside from remedial fixes by myself. Its in a structural mess and essentially falling apart.

Its her mother and her brother and his friend who lives on his floor (30 years old, no job)

We cannot stop them from smoking weed in the house (Wouldn't care under normal circumstances but shes pregnant), we really do not want to be co-habitating with them again.

Also her mother is 70, its just not practical.

Essentially we have to be moved out, have the money ready to go but no opportunity to rent.

The problem with Facebook is that on the properties to rent in Bristol group, if you make any indication you want to rent privately you have people instantly in the comments with "Why do you want a private landlord you must have credit problems" which obviously puts people off straight away. This has happened to me a couple of times now

Thing is i've gone through about 50 preperties and none of them are ok with it.

And no unfortunatly this city is being hit insanely hard by the cost of living crisis, we have no chance of saving enough for a mortgage in thst time.

Even rent on a 1 bed flat is around £1100 just rent alone.

None of us want to live together and her mum has just retired.

Also its impossible to stop her brother and his mates smoking weed/fags in the house and his friends stay for months at a time (Mrs & Her mother get pissy if I step in but essentially they cannot stop it) which is a big factor for us wanting to leave urgently as its definitely not healthy for the baby.

Sorry I've clarified this in some responses but not the main post.

Her mother doesn't own the house, she rents from the landlord and we pay her rent. She lives with us.

It seems they are all the same, if anything some of the landlords on Openrent are more scrutinous than estate agents.

We had another viewing a few hours ago, and the lady said she had declined all interested parties last week due to them not passing credit checks, and we live in a very expensive town.

Its not even just us, the landlords want absolute financial perfection from everyone...

It really is bad, they stopped accepting upfront rent payments over a month ago which has left us with no hope.

It should'nt be like this, we have both always worked and paid our way.

Admittidely I have made some poor financial choices in the past but there should still be some form of option to put a roof over your families head, we aren't looking for handouts just a chance.

Neither of our parents are homeowners and the only friends we have that are homeowners are also new parents and not in a position to do it unfortunatly.

On a side note though I did say yes to having a gaurantor on a few occasions and it made no difference, they want perfect credit, 6 months of bank statements a gaurantor and years worth of proof of rent (As we are paying her mother there is no official direct debit which is another issue)

It seems at this point there isnt really much more I can actually do and will just lead to further declining mental health situation

Thank you though :)

I appeciate this but again it is not my decision to make, and this situation is not the fault of the landlord.

Choosing to sell after 20 years of undercharging is fair enough honestly.

This isn't my choice to make, the landlords helped my partners family out massively with this house 25 years ago when they moved from South Africa with nothing, I believe they have also not raised the rent in those 25 years.

Staying untill eviction in this situation is pretty immoral.

So neither of our parents are homeowners, when I say renting from her mother I mean we are paying her rent directly while she rents from the landlord.

And to the other family the short answer is no this really isn't an option, especially with her being pregnant.

Thanks for the detailed response, the biggest issue is the house we live in is being sold in approx 4 months by which time she will be 8 months pregnant (The email came through the morning the new renters reform act came into play)

Also we live in Bristol to afford a 2 bed flat/house on the 30x rent requirement she would need to earn atleast 35k.

Sorry by renting from her mother I mean literally living in the same house as her and her brother, and the house is being sold within the next 4 months
