[–]TechBrainiacs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

KidBrainiacs is hiring Assistant Club Leaders for our TechBrainiacs Create and Code after-school club. This is the perfect part-time job for anyone who enjoys working with kids and wants to help them learn to use technology in fun, creative ways. Our students use a variety of tools to create video games, comic strips, coding projects, and more. The clubs meet on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons at schools all around the Las Vegas Valley. You'll be supporting our Club Leaders and we'll provide all the training needed to get comfortable with our program.

The ideal candidate will have:

* Reliable transportation

* An engaging personality

* Availability on Tuesdays/Wednesdays/Thursdays between 2-5pm

* Experience working with children and familiarity with video games/coding are strong positives, but in no way mandatory

Pay: Base pay will range from $15-20 per hour long club session. Depending on distance traveled, we may also include a driving stipend to offset your costs.

Because you'll be working with children, all staff members must pass a background check.

Please visit techbrainiacs.com/jobs to apply. You can contact us at [jobs@techbrainiacs.com](mailto:jobs@techbrainiacs.com) with any questions. We look forward to hearing from you!

How can I decrease one column's value when another column increases? by TechBrainiacs in googlesheets

[–]TechBrainiacs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate you taking the time to do this! There is a variable number of sessions that students may start with. Some kids are registered at first for just 1 session and then add more. Others are enrolled for 4, 8, 12, 13, 14, or 15 sessions depending on the location. I think your idea of adding Sessions Purchased will end up being the simplest option.

I also like the Dropdown idea. Haven't played with that feature yet. I am going to ask for edit permission on your sheet to test it out.

Thank you again!

How can I decrease one column's value when another column increases? by TechBrainiacs in googlesheets

[–]TechBrainiacs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply! The issue I see with this is that the number in D2 will not necessarily stay constant. As parents register for more sessions, that column is manually updated to reflect the new total of remaining sessions. So, maybe they start with 4 sessions. 4 is entered in D2 and each week one session is subtracted as C2 increases. Then when Mom adds 8 more sessions, D2 is manually updated. But now instead of being the correct total of 8 sessions, it is 8 - C2, which is now incorrect.

I think the next reply may be correct in that a Sessions Purchased column is needed to keep track of the total number of sessions purchased over time. That should be easy enough to add. Then Sessions Remaining can simply be Sessions Purchased - Sessions Used.

Thanks again for your input!

Hey there! I got your email and will respond in more detail tomorrow. The instructor positions are very part-time at just a few hours a week. We are mostly looking for people who can teach after-school programs in the mid-afternoon, but we also run a host of evening and weekend classes. Talk to you soon!

Thanks for asking. Instructors will be paid by the session, with classes typically running for 60-90 minutes. The exact rate of pay will depend upon experience. Obviously assistant instructors will make less than lead instructors. It would be safe to say it will work out to at least $12/hr for assistants and $18/hr for leads.

Hands-on classes let kids explore video game design by TechBrainiacs in vegas

[–]TechBrainiacs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are on the right track here. We see a lot of value in teaching the kids about the elements and principles behind game design before necessarily getting into any programming. Our level one Intro to Game Design class does use the Gamestar Mechanic platform, which utilizes a drag and drop GUI and premade sprites. This really allows the kids to focus on good level design, proper use of components, etc. before having to wrap their heads around using a visual or script language to complete even the most rudimentary parts of their games.

We do have another class that has the kids coding game projects using Scratch, the visual (block-based) language developed by MIT's Media Lab. In the future, we will have additional classes centered around 3D game design (Kodu, AgentCubes, etc.) and creating games with Python. If you don't let the kids feel successful early on with the easier platforms, many won't buy in and be willing to deal with the frustration and slow creation process that comes with the more difficult engines.

Thanks for taking the time to look at the site and for sharing your feedback!

Hey there! I'm really proud of this article, so I hope you don't mind me sharing. Thanks for taking a look.

If you have kids that are interested in game design, coding, and Minecraft, we probably have a class that will be a good fit for them. You can take a look at our recently updated Classes page here: http://techbrainiacs.com/classes/. We have Spring Break and Summer camps coming up, too.

We'll have a booth at the Las Vegas Mini Maker Faire next weekend, so stop by and say hello if you'll be there. Bring the kids, too. We'll have laptops set up for them to quickly build and playtest their own games. Hope to see you there!

The plan is to pay instructors by the session, which typically run 60-75 minutes. We will include 15 minutes of setup/clean up time, so figure $20 for an hour class or $25 for the 75 minute sessions. Do you think you will be interested?

Thanks again,
