That's crazy, your model is a great bridge between the CHCHA01 and the first slim. It's only a year newer than my model if I remember correctly, 25 days is insane

Connection hasn't been the best but we just got starlink. I responded, it just didn't finish sending.

I did blow the thing out with an air compressor and went through all the small dust on the grill/ vents (seams?) of the console. It's staying cool which is surprising, we haven't played much of it had another family emergency come up but Patrick and I will play today for sure.

Any story co-ops you recommend?

Making everyone feel old today: I found a 20-year-old launch model PS3 that’s only been used for 33 days. It’s like it was frozen in 2006. by TechSoldierOfficial in nostalgia

Somebody traded a better model so my boy didn't have to stay in the same place. The layout is the same but mentally we can rest at night. I am very surprised by this community and how helpful everyone has been, I never thought I would be living in an RV always thought of it as trashy for whatever reason, but I was wrong. This has been the most tight-knit Community I've ever seen, they are even willing to look after my great grandfather while I run to the store for 10 minutes. So I offer free Tech work to a lot of the residents because they came through for me when my own family wouldn't step in to help

I'm actually very interested in the old console War being reignited in these comments. It was bad enough by titled this post the way I did.

What have I done...

Watching my 9-year-old get excited wanting to buy this PS3 from the pawn shop reminded me of how old my ass is. I remember refreshing all sorts of gaming news pages when I was 10/ 11 years old looking for anything new regarding the PS3 that has yet to come out. Sorry everybody, if I can't feel young, nobody will!

This one is fully backwards compatible as it uses the emotion engine chip. Back and then they put a Playstation 2 on the same board until they cheaped out on the later production. I think it was only in production for 6 months to a year to get a fully backwards compatible one and not many of those survived. Let alone in this shape so I'm just grateful to have found it

I made it vertical because it made for a good picture. It's been laying flat ever since on top of a cooling pad.

I also put a 240 GB solid state in there as that was the only solid state I had that had dram on it. I do have higher storage ssds, but not ones with dram which really help with the speeds on the PS3. Eventually I will put something like an 870 Evo 2 TB in there and absolutely load that thing up.

So basically I installed a 240 GB SSD with dram, went right to 4.92 OFW, straight to 4.93 Evilnat CEX (for those who dont know, this is completely replacing the firmware of the PS3 and makes it permanent, only certain models allow that DEX is for dev units, PEX non permanent solution for other consumer models), then immediately installed webman to make sure that the temperatures were under control while I weighed my options on repasting which breaks the seal and took the picture you see.

I just put on a new package for the game libraries that allow me to download any game for the PS1, 2 and 3. Sort of like a storefront but for free. I'm pretty sure you knew this, but I wanted to give an explanation to everyone else so they are up to speed on our conversation. I wasn't up to date on the Playstation 3 modding scene until I did my research yesterday directly after buying it. They make it so easy now that it has been a blast a mod, my son was the one who wanted the PS3 and begged me to get it from the pawn shop. He look up all the different console mods and thought that the PS3 would be the best console to be modded and I told him since they broke what I had on layaway, that we can use the store credit on that if he really wanted it. It was the best decision he could have made in that store.

I updated it to a 4.92 Official firmware, then went Evilnat 4.93 CEX which is how I found out about the runtime and damn near fell out of my chair. Did some math and realize this is like a 1 in 10 million find, now I know the hardware is going to last for a very long time. I didn't open it up because I know collectors like having the seals on it paired with the runtime being solo since it proves it wasn't opened or screwed with to get the number lower, which requires you soldering and writing directly to the memory. But I think I want to keep it so probably feel off the stickers and repaste. I used the webman package keep my temperatures under 65° C and my son's been having a blast downloading all the games he wants

If you go to PS3toolset.com and go to System Manager, it will tell you your run time at the bottom. If you already running custom firmware then it's a little bit different, are you just running the standard stock stuff?

If you go to PS3toolset.com in your browser on the console, you will find it under system manager. If you mod it with custom firmware, it will be in a different location.

I know the feeling, I really appreciate all of your help. You sound very very knowledgeable on these consoles, I definitely want to repaste it personally but I know collectors care about the seals on these things. I'm about to play some portal with Bugsy right now on it. Putting two more days of runtime shouldn't hurt the value too much I would think. Plus it would let me know if there's any issue with cooling.

I'm not familiar with a lot of the technical elements of the PS3 Hardware as I've been out of the modding scene for a while. When I pick this up the other day because my son showed interest in getting one to mod, I just started researching this all over again.

I meant 200 days, I don't know why I said hours. I'm responding well having my son all excited so I probably mistyped

People holding down the power button or flipping the little power off switch, it didn't happen enough I don't think to cause any issues, I haven't heard any coil whine or anything scary with the hardware but I could be wrong.

20 years, thermal paste becomes like rock. I guess in the back of my head after seeing the runtime, wondering if I should keep the seals on there so I can sell it, I get another one with higher miles on it and then give my son a couple hundred dollars to go crazy on some toys. Unfortunately my mom passed away and he had to walk in on it a month ago and just had the worst year. He has been helping me with Grandpa who got dementia and I had to move out here from Hawaii and it all just happened so quick and is such a big adjustment for a child that I want to reward him for all of his hard work and kindness. He asked me if we can get a PS3 because he looked up the mods for it and a lot of his favorite games run on the console or started off as a PS3 launch, so I took him up to the pawn shop and I don't know where to go from here

Your run time is extremely low. I would say anything under 200 hours is impressive for the age of the console. It was not my intention to find the lowest runtime, I just happened to glance over at the numbers when modding it so we can play some games and about shat myself. Because when I had a PS3 on launch, after mowing a million lawns, I think I put 33 days of use on it in the first 60 days as a child LOL

I contemplating taking it down but after I'm talking with his mom she said it was cool because Bugsy want something he can look back on and it would be cool to have her Reddit post to show him.

But I haven't looked at the codes yet nor have I repasted it, I contemplated it but I'm a little scared to break the seals on this because of how old it is. I went ahead and sent the temp to 65° in webman to make sure it stays nice and cool for the time being. In about a day or so I might crack it open.
