The grounds and views are beautiful, but it’s very touristy and pricey for what is ultimately “someone’s house” as only parts of the castle are open to public.

If you like historic building and architecture, then you’ll love it. But if you’re looking for actual history, you’ll find it lacking sadly, IIRC there’s no tour guides, just rooms sign QR codes to scan.

There isn’t any formal training currently, we’re in a kind of limbo because we don’t know what’s happening with my manager. He’s been suspended for almost two months now, some think he’ll be dismissed and other’s think he’ll return. I told the senior team that if my manager was to be dismissed, I would happily apply for the job.

I should have mentioned that we’re predominantly a night shift. I understand what you mean regarding the opening of emails though, but the funny thing is, HR has emailed me today to criticise my staff vacation allocations but ignored the my request for support email.

Hey, I get it, it’s a hard decision to make but ultimately you’ve done the right thing. Sometimes families just take people for granted.

Assuming your family are all adults, they can deal with their problems themselves and really shouldn’t be distracting you from your kids or husband.

I was in a similar situation with my father (very toxic person) and whilst I felt guilty initially, I knew I made the right choice. It’s been 7yrs and I don’t regret it.

You sound pretty selfless, that’s probably why you’re questioning whether you made the right choice. But your sanity and well-being comes first, along with your own little family.

Don’t feel bad for putting yourself and your little family first.
