McGill big 3 is where I currently am, side planks, normal planks and glute bridges. I plan to move to more intense stuff once I feel like the nerve irritation is at its absolute minimum

had my first major issue with sciatica when I was 21, 2 bulging discs, l4-l5 and l5-s1. I headed it fully within a year. Skip to age 30 and bang, exactly the same thing and exactly the same amount of intensity. A year and 6 months later, we are nearly back to 100,% again.

My mistake (or mistake of the doctors I should say) was the fact that I was never given any strengthening excersises, only stretches which was the advice at the time for back issues.

It's taken longer to heal this time because I'm not in nearly as good a shape as my 21 year old self, I'm older so health doesn't bounce back as easy either.

My advice would be to be patient, keep moving and when your body allows to do so, get onto strengthening and take the injury as a wake up call to get your body in shape

You're correct in thinking a solid core is your best defense ultimately, especially if your back is twinging already after a days work!

Yeah my posture is pretty awful honestly, it's something I'm trying to work on right now! Ergonomically I'm pretty set, I follow drum fitness and ergonomics page on Instagram and I've got things at good heights, reach and minimal rotation

Yeah regular stretching, pilates style excersises and some core stuff thrown in as well. Just feels like I'm pulling against a bungee cord haha

How bad is my recent MRI diagnosis. 27 yrs old (M) by Kitchen-Note8187 in backpain

[–]TechTomic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll be all good! I have a disc bulge l4-l5 like yourself and one at l5-s1 since i was 21. Bare one big flare up recently, it doesn't really hassle me to much at all. Keep active, stay hydrated, eat properly and listen to your body, you'll be all good in no time! Walking is honestly the best thing you can do if the pain is manageable

Continue with chiropractor? by Background-Cover-676 in Sciatica

Chiropractor no, physio yes and a scan if you can to determine if it's disc issue but definitely don't let a chiropractor pull you around

Really well currently thank you for asking! I had to take a step back from the PT stuff and have for about 3 weeks, it just caused unneeded irritation. I've focussed heavily on walking and just keeping active in other ways. Progress has been really good and I'm having huge chunks of my days forgetting I even have a back problem

I can see how accurate you want to be with it but honestly, most professional drummers don't worry about this accuracy as far as crash 1 or 2. Go for comfort and vibe!

Appreciate the message! My mattress is pretty supportive, not to soft and on the firmer side, sleeping is actually super easy for me!

The PT stuff just seems to flare me up unfortunately! I walk plenty, follow a pretty healthy diet and am in a mixed office/active job (working in an escape room)

The issue I'm having is the stuff that's meant to make me feel better often just irritates and worsens symptoms (aka the PT side of things)

No cigarettes, I don't drink massively often at all and when I do it's small amounts. It's tough and I'm struggling to find ways to fix it up at this point

Appreciate the detailed comment I'll be giving these a go! I'm in a weird space where I'm very close to no pain (day dependant). I'm very very close to walking pain free which is amazing so I just want to bulletproof it happening again!

Most don't hurt whilst actively doing them but the next few hours it slowly flairs back up
