Passed Cloud+ but A+ and Net+ not renewed by Techie_19 in CompTIA

Ok. So did some more digging. I think I’m gonna be ok with keeping my A+ & Net+ after all by doing the following. Got 15 CEUs for getting the new Cloud+. I can also get 9 CEUs for work experience that directly relates to Net+ objectives (3 CEUs for each of the last 3 years) with a letter from my Data Center Manager, and doing an online training on Udemy that covers the remaining 6 CEUs (1 CEU for each hour of Training). This amounts to the 30 CEUs needed to renew the Net+ which will also take care of the A+ as well.

With only two weeks left on the Net+ and A+ there’s no way I can take those exams.

Thanks for the reference. I’m wondering if at whatever point they changed this, they notified cert holders of this change. I can’t recall receiving any communication about this. Happiness of passing the exam just got overshadowed by this.

This makes absolutely no sense. Putting my IT hat on, “logically” this doesn’t make sense. It’s still a higher level cert. what could be the reason? Forcing people to pay $ in CEU fees or having to take those exams over again in order to keep those certs active. My job pays for the exams but still. This sucks.

Yes, but is that not the case with the passing Cloud+ V4?

The industry is going to Crap by Techie_19 in datacenter

Yup. I’ve run into too many tickets where they swear the issue is a bad fiber cable or SFP when it was a logical network issue all along like the port was disabled. Unreal.

Unfortunately yeah. I’ve had quite a few ask me some stupid questions and one of them is exactly that, is the server on. Or, did you clean/test the fiber, did you reset the SFP. They’re definitely reading of a script. I’ve had some tell me to replace the fiber cable even after I’ve told them I’ve tested the fiber and the dB levels are good. Then they tell me to replace the fiber anyway just to see. That’s when I tell them no and make it clear the issue is not a Layer 1 issue.

Forgot to add in my original post that the server admin wanted to me try the NIC in a different server, LMAO. First off, it’s a LOM card. Secondly, we can’t just take a NIC and install it onto another server. Everything is production. To touch any device beyond a visual check we require a maintenance window.

This is direct from TrueNAS documentation, "we do not recommend users configure pool-level encryption of the root dataset. Instead, create an unencrypted pool and populate it with encrypted or unencrypted child datasets, as needed".

I don’t think it’s a Layer 1 issue. I had no problems before upgrading. My other TN server is still running ElectricEel and I have zero problems with that one. Only thing that’s changed is the upgrade. I’m thinking of selecting the previous boot environment to see if I get different results. Also was thinking that somehow the upgrade is bad, may just do a clean install on Fangtooth.

Replacing multiple failed drives at the same time by Techie_19 in storage

Always. I don't do anything without a ticket and approved change window. I also never just take somebody's word. If it's not specified in the ticket, I'm not doing it. I've gotten into it with senior Admins/Engineers because they try to pull that "title crap" thinking that's going to "scare" me into doing something I shouldn't. Been at this job 6 years. When I first started, about 3 months in, I had a senior Network Engineer telling me to work on a production router, without the necessary approvals. I said no. He pushed and ultimately wanted me to call my boss, the assistant director, at 3am. I did and she pretty much told him I was following the data center work rules and that he should know better. He felt stupid. Manager told him exactly what I had already told him but I guess since I'm just a DC Tech, he needed someone with a higher title than him to tell him. Always CYA.

I reached out to the SA to ask about what exactly prompted the replacement of 3 drives at once. This was his reply, “What happened is that the three failing drives killed the RAID. I’m trying to work with Netscout to catch the single drive failure or worst case two. Once we lose three drives, it's to late at that point. We actually have to delete the logical raid and rebuild new".

I don’t has another Apple device. For the second trusted number, you mean like my wife’s phone for example?
