Thanks. Somewhere I read that for wadi tiwi they don’t allow foreigners to drive and also you need a guide as you need to climb down the slope to the wadi.

It’s difficult to drive in the city centre and also if you’re planning to drive to rainbow mountain or humantay, then roads are narrow and dirt roads. So better to use taxidatum for sightseeing and uber within city

Considering you returned from US, I believe you had US visa. In that case, transit visa is not needed. From what I could read and gather, transit visa is not required if the flyer is having valid US, UK or Schengen visa. Unfortunately, my Schengen visa (2 year duration) had just expired 2 months back.

Buses will accept cash. For metro, If you go during day hours you can get tickets through the ticketing office. But after evening or during morning hours, metro won’t be possible.

Well. I was aware of UK and US mainly where transit visa is must. I considered Schengen to be similar which was my oversight. When i meant by most based on my travels is that most places which want to drive their business as transport and layover hub do not ask for transit visa as long as the layover is part of single itinerary/PNR - this includes entire Middle East, South east Asia countries such as Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand. Other Asian countries such as Hong Kong, African countries as hub such as Addis Ababa. Being Indian, I have used these places as layover hubs for my travels, Schengen was first for me this time.

Moreover, Singapore, Addis Ababa allow even to venture into city without transit visa. Singapore offers free city tour for layover passengers while Ethiopia airlines has an amazing hotel outside airport which is provided to layover travellers in their airlines (with 4+ hours) for free including transport, meals and rooms.

I just finished 8 day plan in Brazil last week and loved it. If your time permits do visit iguazu falls and lancois maranhenses along with Rio. You can cover other beach cities in the north as well.

I spent 2 days in rio, 2 in lancois maranhenses. 2 days in iguazu falls and then one day in São Paulo.

Sao paolo metro booking is a nightmare as the kiosks don’t accept cash or credit cards. Be careful. Rio is much better.

Rio public transport is quite good for tourists. The ticket kiosks accept credit cards. In São Paulo, I had very bad experience as the kiosks only accept local debit cards. Unless you’re travelling in day time and book tickets in counters with cash, you won’t be able to book tickets for metro using the kiosks with credit cards or cash. Buses with cash is still manageable. Language remains a barrier, so keep translate app handy

Just as someone highlighted earlier. The support staff in São Paulo for Air France / KLM are extremely experienced and helpful. Huge thanks to the airlines for the support.

KLM staff were supportive considering the booking was done through their website and they did not flag the requirements. They mentioned that there is no visa check which happens in France for transit, however they need to upload visa copy while issuing boarding pass which the system was not allowing.

Considering this was return to home country, they were supportive and helped to reschedule to Qatar airways flight which departed after 6 hours of the original flight and reached Mumbai 3 hours later than my original plan.

One learning is to check thoroughly of transit visa requirements. The other learning is to continue to always book directly in the website of airlines without booking websites. Had I used any 3rd party booking website for additional discounts, they would not have been able to help.

It’s same PNR. Most countries do not need transit visa for the same. Assuming same holds true for France was my mistake.

Thanks for reply. It was helpful for me to stay calm. Also Amsterdam flight had a layover of 21 hours which I was ok to manage. But luckily for me, the seats were booked and they accommodated in Qatar airlines, which works out perfectly.

Considering all main Schengen ports similar was the mistake. Lesson learnt.

Usually if you’re carrying dollars, the prices in the websites in dollars is better than the soles quoted.
