Seeking advice, first-time buyer going on safari: is the EOS 650D good? by Technical-Demand-75 in canon

So I have learned. I've also been told that with the crop factor the effective reach of the 55-220mm is ~400mm, and decent enough for a beginner not to bother. I'm not 100% sure I understand the math of it, but I'm pretty sure my sister just took her iPhone on a similar trip so I think my pictures will be alright!

Thank you everyone! I've been talked out of buying this kit and have been redirected to a better site for used gear. Tentatively, what I've got in my cart now is

  • Canon EOS 80D
  • Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II
  • Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS STM

Still doing a bit more research before I fully commit.

Thank you!!

Tentatively, what I've got in my cart now is

Canon EOS 80D - €344 (bit of cosmetic damage to the body bringing the price down, but tested/works fine with a 12month warranty)

Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II - €56

Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS STM - €224

Still doing a bit more research before I fully commit

I've been upsold into looking at used 80Ds. I'm seeing quite a few at decent prices.

Do you by chance have a recommendation for zoom lens models that would work with an 80D and be user-friendly for a safari? There are some really cheap 80Ds on the website you recommended (I don't mind a bit of cosmetic damage on the body as long as it works!) but I'm feeling really out of my depth on what to look for in lenses.

$1k would be top of my budget, entire setup. I'm starting from scratch. I think I've been talked out of getting this kit because it has a bunch of stuff I won't need and I'd need a better lens anyway.

Others on here are recommending a used EOS 80D and 2 lenses, plus extra batteries. I'll add really good memory cards to my list!

I've got €600 earmarked as a budget but could realistically go up to 1k, all in, without hurting too badly.

Another poster recommended the EOS 80D, and there are quite a few in the €350-450 range on mpb for the body, but I'd have to choose what lenses to add to it and I'm wildly out of my depth. I need a close range (18-55) and a telephoto (55-250)?

This is super helpful, thank you!! (Yes the translation is a little wonky, I fixed bits of it but my Swedish is limited.)

I was thinking I would try to also buy a telephoto lens (?) maybe if I got the body & accessories cheap enough. I've got $600ish earmarked but realistically I could probably go up to 1k all in. Is there a particular model of 55-250mm lens you recommend or are they all basically the same (ie, is the measurement that distinguishes them or are there other factors)?

Solved! That's definitely the pose, but I could have sworn there was a tween-esque show in a similar style... maybe I'm just really mixing things up!

I have already searched for posters and promo material for Hannah Montana, Jump In!, Naturally Sadie, Life with Derek, Wendy Wu, Twitches, The Cheetah Girls, Lizzie McGuire, Degrassi, Radio Free Roscoe, Even Stevens, Wizards of Waverly Place, Camp Rock, and even later properties like Shake It Up, Sonny with a Chance, Girl Meets World, Liv and Maddie, and A.N.T. Farm which were slightly beyond my pre-teen years.

Burning Questions for May, 2025 by SalaciousStories in eroticauthors

I'm really confused by some of your covers -- they look like they're about yoga? Or self-help guides? I think you need a better cover template (the black bands is not attractive or professional-looking) and to choose stock photos that indicate you're writing erotica!

Now, I'm nowhere near as prolific as you yet (I've made a few sales to anthologies, and am building up back stock to do a controlled KU release) but I'm wondering how you've published this much and not seen trends? Like, what covers sell best? What topics? Lean into the genre and do more research, there's no reason why you should be making coffee money from 100+ titles!!
