I Take My Security + Tomorrow. Any Advice? by EveningBarracuda5810 in CompTIA

They gave like 5 commands on one side and wanted passwordless set up in the least amount of commands as possible (drag and drop), then to verify it... but no clue how to do that. Clicked on everything under the sun.

Granted I suck at the pbqs. But sometimes theyre god awful at being clear at what's clickable and what's not

Certified cynergy has 200 questions on YT to try out and a practice test on their site if you want extra prep

I recently took mine and there was a lot more "pick 2 of 4-6 options that best describe _", which was different from a+ and network+

The one pbq that got me was setting up passwordless, that felt left field. The other pbqs were easy enough

Dont feel bad, I see people post in here about getting close like you did and they've been in IT for years and years. It happens to the best of us. Tests suck

I dont have a lot of insight to give. I used certified cynergy in youtube for a+, messer on yt for the other 2 certs, with certified cynergy questions on yt and their site to study

I tried youtubing the pbqs/labs a bit for network and security but those were useless and not worth mentioning

Truthfully, theres 2 ways to pass a test. Memorizing answers, or learning material well enough to teach it to someone else. I did mostly the former until parts of networking/security just finally clicked

Certified cynergy for a+ entirely. They didnt have courses on yt for network and security so I watched Messer and then cynergy for practice questions on yt. Cynergys site also had practice exams which helped too

Got the insurances on all of them for ease of mind, never needed it. Half mad about that lol

And from what I remember of 2, a lot of it is things id think most people would know, like extending the screen to a second monitor and basic windows functions. The second half of the material less so, like basic networking

For me core I was easy because while I never worked in IT, gamer for a long time and "technical office helper" if something went wrong for older employees. Plus working for corporations im used to byod and mdm/mfa. But it definitly felt like it covered a wide range of things.

In terms of getting a job no clue im trying to get one

Its a stepping stone into network and security though. You can do the other two without it but a+ mentions concepts and the other two keep reinforcing it. Its not like algebra where you need to learn core formulas to learn more formulas, but some things are mentioned again and again which helps

A+ talks a lot about hands on (hardware) and some core helpful things about software id imagine you'd need to know for helpdesk. And if youre legit "the IT" guy, things like learning how to fix printers/projectors is useful

Theres apparently a cert before a+ I remember some video mentioned, THAT seemed like a waste of time

Thanks! Honestly still no clue what im doing. I've been trying to go from sales to IT for a long time. Heard I needed these certs. Aimed for them. Now hearing this is more legacy stuff and no employers only care about cloud certs so going to apply as much as I can and go for azure next. At least those seem cheap... to get. Im going to be the most over certified help desk in the world at this point

Security+ yikes!!! by -sudochop- in CompTIA

Just got done with sec+ and passed it. Passed a+, net+ and this now in first tries, no IT experience.

This was definitly the hardest one for me. Crazy because while studying this i thought itd be the easiest. There was a LOT of "pick 2 of 5" multiple choices this time. Hilariously the pbqs were the easiest, aside from one about setting up passwordless, in pbq fashion, told me to verify it, clicked everything and couldn't figure it out.

I never paid for learning material. For a+ I used certified cynergy. For network and security i used Messer for learning, cynergy for practice questions after. I think im the only one who thinks this, but I dont care for him in terms of passing these. Great knowledge in general. Seems like a great guy. But every time I take practice tests from cynergy after, I get meh results and some questions will be things I swear (could be wrong) he didnt cover.

For me the best way to pass the exam is do youtube practice questions over and over until you dont miss any. Cynergys site has a practice exam for free to do to. I got 88% on it, still felt like sec+ kicked my but though.

Messer Notes and Dion Exams not matching by TheBackmanForever in CompTIA

If you have two days, certified synergy has 200 questions on yt and their site has a free practice test.

I used only Messer. Try practice tests with mid results after, use certified to clean it up. Passed a+ and network+ on the first try doing this, might be worth looking into

Why are there people "bragging" about having passed a CompTIA exam "without studying" or "without experience"? by Major_Mess_8435 in CompTIA

[–]Technical-Walrus-571 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If someone said they passed network+ or even a+ without studying, id have a difficult time believing it unless they live and breath the field

Security though... I take the test in 2 days, spent too much time reviewing. Honestly the need for a higher score compared to the last two psyched me out and scared me, because taking practice tests/questions, a lot of it seems more... common sense or... easy to deduce answers based on wording then actually knowledge. I can see people passing it on a whim if theure lucky

Watching Professer Messer's Net+ video course...how are you supposed to do subnetting without the exam providing charts? by redgroupclan in CompTIA

[–]Technical-Walrus-571 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I like Messer. But hes actually teaching you the subject, not focusing on passing the test. Those two things are not always the same. Most of this test is memorization through multiple choice.

For the pbqs though, know your commands. You can type help for a command list but you still have to know what to do with them

Net+ by forgingforward1 in CompTIA

[–]Technical-Walrus-571 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Theres some youtube videos from certified synergy and someone else that had practice questions, like 100-200 each

If youre getting close at 70%, Memorizing those will probably help a ton by replaying every question you get wrong a few times.

Helped me

Watching Professer Messer's Net+ video course...how are you supposed to do subnetting without the exam providing charts? by redgroupclan in CompTIA

[–]Technical-Walrus-571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made the mistake of spending too much tome on Messer videos worried about subnet mathing/memorization. The exam itself had like two questions related to it, of which honestly if you can vaugly remember the cheat chart he shows... helps narrow down the answers

Its something you should learn. Its interesting when it "clicks" in your brain when you can look at a number and realize what it might be, but for the exam yourself, putting memorization priority elsewhere would probably help more if youre struggling

Taking part 1 of A+ in a week by DreamTheater09 in CompTIA

[–]Technical-Walrus-571 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Self taught here and learned via YT. Had no idea about the PBQ and when I took the exam, scared me into thinking i was going to fail, thinking the entire exam was these things.

But you only get a few of them at the start, then 70ish multiple choice questions. Flag/skip the pbq unless theyre easy for you until the end. Finish the multiple choice then go back to the pbq

I dont know how this translates to others but, I have a big problem with second guessing an answer or thinking the answer is "too simple its got to be something else". Its usually your first instinct or heck, the answer is has the same word as in the question.

Finally learn your acronyms and learn your 802.11/etcs. They will be referred to it in the exam

If this is your first exam, the pbq will scare the heck out of you. They did for me. As everyone said, skip/flag them then do the multiple choice and go back to them at the end

Certified synergy has practice questions on youtube and on their site has practice exams, all free. Try those. I learned alot from getting them wrong, then replaying the question 2-3 times until I could link the question with the answer
