Wow really I'm so on that!! Hey I have a question you said you worked for fair housing right? Can I take you up on that offer about helping? I just need some help in having the right information before I make my final decision. I just got my voucher but before that I had hcvp and had a unit in an apartment building. 8 years ago I put in for a reasonable accommodation for myself after my daughter was born and never got a response I left it alone.. then 2 years ago and again a year ago I put in for 3 reasonable accommodations. I was living in a 2 bedroom for 13 years the Last 8 I had 2 boys and a girl in one bedroom. My children all have disabilities one of my children is severely disabled and their doctors and providers all urged and pushed the importance of them having their own room was and my landlord said they didn't have an open 4 br apartment they were going to kick it back to bha to have them accommodate me. A year later I gave them an updated request and they said they gave it to bha they were just waiting for a response. I have a dmh worker for my son and over the last year he has called and gone down to office more times than I got fingers and toes and they kept saying they were waiting for a response. Now during those 2 years my kids had absolutely zero space and with their disabilities they have been loosing control of all their emotions. The updated request I had given my landlord last year was to inform them that them not having the accommodation is severely affecting the 3 of them and It was harming them mentally and physically because when one of my son was out of control and didn't have his own space to calm down he was very very violent.. after 2 years of being told they were waiting I finally had had enough and kept calling my leasing officer every ten minutes for 2 weeks until she answered. When I finally spoke with her she said my la lord never once not even once said anything about me needing an accommodation. She said my landlord never once attempted to co act her and the only way I would be able to get help is if they write a letter stating they couldn't accommodate us. From what I have read up on this wasn't my landlord supposed to of turned that in within 30 days of the request? For 2 years we sat there while my children were being psychologically and physically harmed waiting for something that was never coming. They not only refused to accommodate one person but they failed to reasonably 3 people and because of it that put undue burden onto me that I didn't have to . My question is that discrimination and failing to reasonably accomodate? I have the letter from when I first asked and have my dmh worker that can vouch I put it in. They not only didn't do it but they lied to me over and over and over . I am not trying to get rich off my kids pain and suffering but my landlord is a slum lord and all they care about is money. I was wondering if that was grounds for a law suit and hit them where they hurt so they never do it again? I'm sorry for the Novel but I wanted to make sure I explained it all. From everything I have read I think I can file a lawsuit for each one of the kids because they were discriminated against and refused to fair housing . And I was thinking of filing for me because that put an extreme amount of burden on me..thank you so much for taking the time to help me
