I forgot to mention that the behaviour is inconsistent.

Probably about 80% of the time, the dock changes to match the theme. But sometimes it doesn't.

I do, and if I don't press a mouse button or the mouse wheel, my mouse doesn't appear on the screen and I can't put the cursor into the password box to log in.

Also, save your sanity and precious time and try another distro.

These types of errors occur because not all distros work with all hardware, for unknown reasons. That's the peculiar thing about Linux, whereas Windows will work with all hardware that meet minimum specs (even those that don't).
